Job Summary

  
The Michigan Service Hub exists to aggregate Michigan's strong, varied digital
collections, for contribution to the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).
This is a newly created position funded for three years with the possibility
of extension. Located at the University of Michigan, this
position is open to experienced information professionals and is focused on
the creation of the new statewide hub supporting the State of Michigan's
participation in DPLA. Under the guidance of the Michigan
DPLA Steering Committee, this role will serve as the primary point of contact
between Michigan "sub-hubs" and DPLA, and will be responsible for coordinating
metadata aggregation between partner institutions located throughout the
state. Additionally, responsibilities will include managing
knowledge sharing between Michigan "sub-hubs," providing training, onboarding
new partners, high level metadata quality control, and liaison to statewide
outreach efforts in partnership with a wide range of contributors. Founding
partners and starting collaborators are Library of Michigan, University of
Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, Western Michigan
University, and the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services. Strategic and
operational guidance comes from the Michigan DPLA Steering Committee,
comprised of partner representatives.

Note: This is a three year, term-limited appointment with the possibility of

Responsibilities*

  * Serve as the primary communications liaison between DPLA and Michigan sub-hubs, helping to remediate complex metadata issues with a wide range of partners.
  * Coordinate all meetings of Michigan DPLA sub-hub members and working groups to develop metadata standards and technology.
  * Serve as the primary contact for aligning new partners with sub-hubs, determining the feasibility of metadata for inclusion, and managing a statewide inventory of new collections for ingest.
  * Work with Michigan technology partners to develop new technology to streamline ingest processes, particularly with Wayne State University in its role as the lead technology developer.
  * Serve as a liaison to various statewide outreach activities, including DPLA Ambassadors and other emerging programs.
  * Serve as the primary provider for the various agreements required for new partners, including getting memorandum of understandings signed, explaining metadata terms of open access, etc.
  * Serve as an ex-officio member of the Michigan DPLA Steering Committee, reporting project progress and assisting with statewide efforts to build a long term sustainability and expansion business model.
  
Required Qualifications*

  * An ALA-accredited master's degree or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
  * Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and a proven ability to understand and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  * Proven proficiency in project management and outreach activities.
  * Knowledge of current technologies, trends, and best practices for digital libraries including metadata standards.
  * Demonstrated aptitude for quickly learning new topics.
  * Understand and value diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.
  * Positive outlook and willingness to learn.
  * Demonstrated affinity for technology.
  
Desired Qualifications*

  * 3-5 years experience relevant to job duties
  * Ability to think independently and work collaboratively within and across organizational and institutional boundaries in order to achieve shared goals.
  * Experience building institutional relationships and coordinating large scale distributed technology projects.
  * Familiarity with project management and ticket tracking tools such as JIRA.
  * Experience with event planning and grant writing.
  * Experience creating user-friendly documentation and training programs.
  * Familiarity with standards and best practices for metadata aggregation, including quality control, OAI-PMH, and Dublin Core.
  * Familiarity with copyright and licensing for digital library objects and metadata, such as Creative Commons.
  
Additional Information

Appointment is anticipated as an assistant librarian. Salary and rank
dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian
appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional
development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with
