Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

11 month, Full Time, Permanent. General funds.

To begin approximately Fall 2016, subject to position clearance and/or
availability of funding. For best consideration, all application materials

Duties and Responsibilities

  
Under the general direction of the University Librarian, the Assistant
University Librarian for Library Information Technology (AUL-LIT) provides
leadership and strategic direction for all library information technology
services and infrastructure in support of library operations and access to
information.

  
Serves as a member of the Library's administrative team.

  
Evaluates and improves the provision of library information technology
services by assessing workflows, conducting planning, developing services, and
implementing organizational change to facilitate the strategic positioning of
staff and functions to efficiently and effectively serve the University
community.

  
Leads process management improvement by implementing project planning
frameworks and guidelines.

  
Plans ongoing staff training and development for information technology in
collaboration with the Associate University Librarian for Planning,
Administration and Personnel.

  
Participates in long-range planning, program development and evaluation,
budget formulation, and resource allocation with other members of the
Library's administrative team.

  
Leads the development of library information technology policy on the Mānoa
campus and with consortial partners.

  
Leads large-scale system deployments and collaborations including procurement
of information technology support systems.

  
Provides leadership to obtain external funding via grants or other funding
sources.

  
Oversees the infrastructure supporting the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa
Library technology-based operations, network and computing resources.

  
Leads efforts to identify and implement digital preservation best practices.
Provides leadership to determine infrastructure requirements and workflows for
digital preservation.



Oversees the promotion and awareness of the campus open access policy.



Has library-wide responsibility for planning and advancing digital library
initiatives, advanced web-based services, and digital multimedia resources and
services.



Directs research and development of applicable information technologies within
the Library.



Provides leadership for coordination and development of synergies in digital
library management.



Coordinates information technology initiatives with other units of the
Library, the University, consortial partners, and national organizations.



Develops and expands campus partnerships for resource sharing and
collaboration.



Serves as the Library's representative to the University, state, regional, and
national associations regarding library information systems and technology.



Serves as the Library's primary liaison with the University's Information
Technology Services (ITS). Communicates library information technology plans
and activities to faculty and administrators.



Coordinates with counterpart administrators at state and national levels
regarding library information technology developments, initiatives and
cooperative efforts.



Attends regional, national, and international meetings of information
technology associations to maintain knowledge of trends and services.



Cultivates key state, national and international relationships with vendors
and technology providers.



Defines funding needs and develops funding strategies and implementation plans
with the University Librarian, the Associate University Librarian for
Planning, Administration and Personnel, and the University of Hawai'i
Foundation.



Performs other duties as assigned, including coordinating the work of other
library divisions when necessary and assuming responsibilities of Acting
University Librarian when required.

  
Minimum Qualifications

  
Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.



Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in research or
academic libraries, or other academic or research information technology
provider; demonstrated success in leading and managing organizational change;
significant broad experience with current generation library management
systems and/or library information technology services; thorough familiarity
with trends in library and academic technology.



Must have attained the academic rank of B-4 (Librarian IV) or have
demonstrated a record of comparable professional experience prior to
appointment.



Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current and emerging trends in
traditional and automated technical services processes, digital preservation,
the Semantic Web and linked data, scholarly communications, academic library
services, and digital resource management.



Demonstrated strong commitment to cross-departmental collaboration and
communication.



Demonstrated leadership in the field.



Excellent interpersonal and communications skills working with all levels of
staff and users.



Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.



Experience with workflow analysis and/or project management.



Record of effective engagement with faculty and other library users in
development of innovative digital systems.



Demonstrated understanding of scholarly communication issues, including
research data curation, and the ability to engage the campus in working for
change in scholarly communication.

  
Desirable Qualifications

  
Second Master's (or higher) in a related field.



At least ten (10) years of experience in leading a research library technology
or automated technical services division or equivalent experience with an
academic information technology provider.



Successful experience working with vendors and external funding bodies.



Previous experience working in a multi-campus university environment.



Experience with open source content management system and/or institutional
repository use in libraries.



Experience in managing the technical, fiscal, personnel, and communications
aspects of change.



Record of significant external grant activity.



Demonstrated success in recruiting, retaining, and developing a talented
workforce.
