Web Content Strategist

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks a strategic and creative
individual for the position of Web Content Strategist. This position will have
responsibility for content strategy across the Libraries website. The person
will report to the Manager of Discovery, Access and Web Services in the
Libraries Technology Department and work closely with the Public Relations and
Marketing Department and Assessment Department.
The position will work collaboratively across a large and distributed
organization of content authors and stakeholders. The Libraries website is a
complex, integrated online environment of Penn State Libraries-created content
and licensed library databases and resources. The successful candidate will
have an understanding of library systems as well as locally authored web
content, and a keen knack for problem solving for optimum user experience.
The Web Content Strategist will act as a key member of the web teams and
stakeholders to develop a content strategy document for the Libraries website,
as well as workflows related to content lifecycle. The strategist will assess
and create a content inventory, assign and track new content and develop and
maintain a gap analysis. The Web Content Strategist will create and edit
content and work with other writers, while collaborating closely with Public
Relations and Marketing on developing and enforcing editorial style
guidelines. The Web Content Strategist will mentor content authors and help
develop training and educational materials, emphasizing accessibility and user
experience of content within our content strategy. The Web Content Strategist
will also provide advice and consultation for additional websites and tools in
the Libraries to achieve a consistent voice.
This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the
successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically
requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience,
or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3.
Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for
higher level jobs.
Required skills include: writing and editorial experience; knowledge of UX
principles; strong project management skills; demonstrated content management
software experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills;
familiarity with library resources databases; and knowledge of accessibility
WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 guidelines. Preferred qualifications include
knowledge of search engine optimization and experience working with Drupal and
developing information architecture for desktop and mobile web. Knowledge of
Agile SCRUM; demonstrated experience implementing content strategy methods
across a variety of channels, including website, e-mail communications, and
social media; and experience with bibliographic exchange protocols and open
standards, such as OpenURL, are also preferred. Candidate should be prepared
to provide examples of previous work.
