The Digital Archivist preserves and makes accessible a
wide-range of historically significant digital materials. Preeminent among the
collections are the Senator Harry Reid Papers. Senator Reid has designated the
University Libraries as the recipient of his political papers spanning his
33-year career in the U.S. House and Senate. This huge addition to the
Libraries' collection of political papers will attract researchers from across
the nation and the globe.
The Archivist provides leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on management
of digital content in this collection and oversees the long term preservation,
organization, and distribution of the Libraries' digitized and born-digital
material. The position provides expertise and leadership and manages physical
processing and handling of unique digital research collections. The position
reports to the Assistant Dean for Collections and Knowledge Access Services.
The successful candidate will be an experienced archivist, with strong
technical skills and understanding of current standards and best practices,
including metadata encoding standards: EAD, DACS, MARC 21, Dublin Core, etc.;
content management systems: Archivists' Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, CONTENTdm; and
relevant standards such as ISO 15489. The Libraries place emphasis on
essential skills for this position which include excellent communication,
organization, and the ability to work across departments and with a variety of
stakeholders from library colleagues to university and political leaders to
researchers.
Salary: $55,000-$75,000 DOE. This is a full-time administrative faculty
position, with continuing appointment. Benefits: Competitive benefits package
including 24 vacation days per year and tuition benefits for self and
dependents. No state income tax.
