The FOLIO project is a reconceptualization of a library services platform, and it is being built by a community using open source principles. The app-on-platform design of FOLIO is one of its most well known attributes; another, not-so-well-known attribute is its user-experience-first design principle. The FOLIO project has engaged a user experience designer to work with subject matter experts to create a user interface prototype before the developers lock down critical parts of the code. You can see Filip Jakobsen's 90 minute presentation on user-experience-first design (in general) and the FOLIO UI prototype (specifically) at https://www.openlibraryenvironment.org/archives/184
Filip has now posted a draft of the user interface design using proto.io that UI/UX designers and subject matter experts can use to create their own vision of a FOLIO app. Have an idea for a public kiosk interface? Or a way to optimize the circulation desk functions? Filip has arranged for a 2-month extended trial on proto.io where anyone can post their experiments. Details are here: https://discuss.folio.org/t/264 -- and be sure to post links to your experiments on discuss.folio.org using the tag 'app-ideas' (https://discuss.folio.org/tags/app-ideas) to share with the community.
