*Job Description:*
The Discovery Services Librarian will serve in a hybrid position, bridging
technical and public services to foster a seamless experience for staff and
users in discovering library resources through the development, support,
and maintenance of library discovery strategies and services. The ideal
candidate will provide leadership in conceptualizing, developing and
managing enhancements to internal and public-facing commercial and
locally-developed library discovery applications, and in creating and
maintaining the Technical Services Department’s automated workflows. This
position will also work closely with the Libraries’ IT staff.  The
Discovery Services Librarian reports to the Head of Technical Services.

*Duties/Physical Demands:*

   - Works in close cooperation with the Libraries’ IT  staff, serving as
   the department liaison for the Libraries’ III Sierra ILS and EZProxy server.
   - Creates and maintains applications and programs to automate technical
   services departmental workflows and oversees classified staff performing
   ordering and cataloging functions using automated workflows.
   - Maintains and troubleshoots the Libraries’ III Sierra instance in
   conjunction with Libraries IT department , including but not limited to:
   maintaining and developing load profiles; developing and upgrading webpac
   features based on changes in cataloging standards (RDA) and capabilities of
   the software; maintaining and developing scripts to work in conjunction
   with the Libraries’ III Sierra ILS and other vendor systems (e.g., OCLC,
   YBP Gobi, EBSCO Discovery Service, etc.).
   - Maintains and troubleshoots the Libraries’ EBSCO Discovery Service
   interfaces in conjunction with Libraries IT Department.
   - Coordinates with relevant OhioLINK consortial committees to sync local
   catalog/software practices with consortial best practices.
   - Assesses Technical Services workflow efficiencies through oversight
   and analysis of departmental and library statistics from Sierra and other
   relevant sources.
   - Collaborates with other library departments and librarians to develop
   appropriate applications.
   - Supervises staff as assigned.
   - Provides training as needed.
   - Advises the Department Head on issues related to discovery of library
   resources and the improvement of Technical Services workflows.

*Minimum Qualifications:*
An ALA-accredited MLS; two or more years of relevant academic library
experience; experience in a technical services or related setting; training
in and/or experience with traditional and evolving cataloging practices
(e.g., RDA, MARC, LCSH, BIBFRAME, etc.); proficiency with software
programs/products associated with library functions (e.g., III Sierra,
EZProxy, OCLC Connexion, MARCEdit, ILLiad, Drupal, LibGuides, institutional
repositories, etc.); willingness to collaborate across departments; strong
and effective interpersonal and communication skills; potential for
leadership; commitment to excellence; flexibility, and ability to work both
independently and collaboratively; ability to manage projects successfully;
and the ability to meet the Libraries’ requirements for continuing contract

*Preferred Qualifications:*
Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML; understanding of XML-based
APIs; working knowledge of one or more programming languages ( e.g. PHP,
Ruby, Python, Java, etc.); familiarity with III’s Sierra ILS and/or the
Ebsco Discovery Service; familiarity and/or experience with macro software
(e.g., AutoIt, MacroExpress, etc.); familiarity with one or more metadata
schemas.
