The UConn Library is expanding its commitment to scholarly communications
and is seeking to fill the new role of Greenhouse Studios Design
Technologist with a flexible, collaborative, self-directive, and innovative
individual. This is a two year, grant funded position and the successful
candidate will serve as a foundational member of a team of researchers
taking on a major Mellon-funded initiative to redefine scholarly
communication in the digital age.

Under the general supervision of the Scholarly Communications Design Studio
Coordinator, the Design Technologist supports the collaborative creation
and implementation of scholarly work for Greenhouse Studios | Scholarly
Communications Design at the UConn Library. Greenhouse Studios is a joint
effort of the UConn Library, School of Fine Arts, and the University of
Connecticut Humanities Institute, with each contributing resources and
personnel to advance scholarly communications research. As a member of the
Greenhouse Studios’ core staff, the Design Technologist collaborates with
interdisciplinary project teams across the University to conceive and
develop technical approaches and design solutions to support scholarly
expression across the University. The Design Technologist maintains current
awareness of relevant technologies and applies that knowledge as part of
Greenhouse Studios projects, in an effort to support and advance the field
of scholarly communication.

*Duties and Responsibilities*

   1. Collaborates with multiple interdisciplinary project teams to
   conceive and develop technical and design approaches to support scholarly
   expression.
   2. Participates in all aspects of the Greenhouse Studios design process.
   3. Creates digital and media assets for Greenhouse Studios projects.
   4. Tests and prototypes digital tools and designs for innovative digital
   scholarship, including the preservation of data and access strategies.
   5. Maintains current awareness of relevant technologies and applies that
   knowledge as part of the team.
   6. Actively contributes to current research in the fields of scholarly
   communication and digital humanities.

*Shared Expectations for All Staff*

   1. Participates in Library-wide strategic planning and actively
   contributes to Area and Unit priorities, initiatives, and/or operations
   through collaboration and cooperation.
   2. Demonstrates reliable and effective written and verbal communication
   and interpersonal skills.
   3. Maintains currency and open communication in ongoing trends and
   developments related to position responsibilities.
   4. Acts independently in the performance of everyday tasks and
   responsibilities.
   5. Works effectively in current office applications, software, and
   communication tools as set by the Library and/or University of Connecticut.
   6. Performs duties parallel to position responsibilities as required.


*Minimum Qualifications *

   1. Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent
   combination of training and experience.
   2. A minimum of one year experience in an area of media specialization.
   3. Demonstrated ability to perform a specific production function, such
   as web design and development, animation, writing, audio/video, graphic
   design, etc.
   4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of
   researchers, editors, designers, librarians, and graduate research
   assistants.
   5. Ability to work independently, provide and respond to feedback, and
   meet deadlines.

*Preferred Qualifications*

   1. Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position.
   2. Demonstrated ability in analytical reasoning and creative problem
   solving.
   3. Demonstrated leadership and excellent communication skills.
   4. Proven track record of digital content creation and audience
   engagement.
   5. Experience in an academic research library or digital humanities
   center.
   6. Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly production in a university
   setting.

This is a two-year, end date position, funded through the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation in partnership with the UConn Library.   The position will be
based in Storrs and has an anticipated start date of August 18, 2017. UConn
offers competitive salaries, outstanding benefits (including employee and
dependent tuition waivers at UConn), and a highly desirable work
environment. Salary is dependent upon education, qualifications, and
experience.
