collections and digital repositories for special collections and scholarly

*Primary Duties and Responsibilities:*
Reporting to the Head of Digital Library Initiatives, the Digital Projects
Librarian oversees a portfolio of digital library projects, provides the
project coordination and technical know-how needed to complete projects
successfully, and works in close collaboration with other librarians and
archivists, IT staff, external vendors, and other stakeholders. Takes an
active role in grant-supported and multi-institution projects, such as PA
Digital, the Pennsylvania hub for the Digital Public Library of America
(DPLA). Coordinates and optimizes ongoing workflows in the realm of
digitization, metadata creation, digital object publication, and digital
preservation. Explores and helps implement new software frameworks to
support the creation, delivery, and preservation of digital objects.
Supervises two staff members and oversees the work of one more staff member
and several student workers. Maintains in-depth knowledge of national
standards and best practices in the digital library field. The Librarian is
also expected to participate in library-wide activities and committees, be
active professionally, and meet the requirements for contract renewals,
promotion, and regular appointment. Performs other duties as assigned.
*Required Education and Experience:*
ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science and 2 years of relevant
experience.
*Required Skills and Abilities:*
*Excellent project management skills including interpersonal and team
leadership skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication
skills.
*Experience with digitization workflows for one or more media types (e.g.,
images, text, audio/video) and ability to optimize workflows for
productivity.
*Experience with at least one digital object repository and/or delivery
system (e.g., CONTENTdm , Hydra, Islandora, or Omeka), including setting up
new collections and customizing instance-wide settings.
*Experience with metadata standards (such as Dublin Core, MODS, and
OAI-PMH), development of metadata profiles and mappings, and bulk uploads.
*Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and software platforms, and
train staff accordingly.
*Demonstrated supervisory abilities.
*Familiarity with copyright issues as they relate to the digitization and
publication of materials from special collections and other areas of the
library.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
*Experience with born-digital materials and web archiving, and
understanding of digital preservation best practices.
*Experience with metadata cleaning and repurposing, for instance using Open
Refine, XML/XSLT or Python.
*Experience with the management of grant-funded and/or multi-partner
projects. Experience with Agile-style project management.
*Experience teaching training sessions and webinars.
