Thanks to Stephen for asking the question. We are starting to get ready to go through a similar process, so I have appreciated everyone's insights and resources as well.

Thanks to everyone who responded, much appreciated, and I appreciate the point towards the documents, and other IR questions. My apologies if this is old hat.

Weird because this link looks almost identical to yours. Probably a small change somewhere or in how my email client botched it up.

Hi Steven,
As I recall, this evaluation matrix was posted to the list awhile back - I think by Ashley Blewer?? Although focused more on IRs, it's pretty comprehensive, and I think asks some good questions: https://docs.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Hi Steven,
Even if you've been unable to identify a survey of the type you seek, many institutions trying to decide on a system build matrices to compare and contrast systems they consider viable so you might be able to obtain a few of those directly from institutions that have gone through that process.
Having said that, this is a heavyweight process that doesn't necessarily lead to superior results. What makes a system work is that it's designed to do what you need with the people and resources you h. Each DAM/repository is at its core best suited for something -- publishing platform, create exhibitions, community contributed research, manage multimedia, centrally managed images, records management system, etc. Likewise, each has built in assumptions of how staff, users, and other systems interact with it.
Don't be afraid to look outside the library world for solutions. All kinds of industries have significant assets to manage and there are many options, some of which may work much better than the usual suspects.

Hi everyone - At The University of Alabama Libraries, we are currently in the discussion phase of considering a new Digital Asset Management System.
Therefore, we are curious what other institutions use, and perhaps their reasoning, and / or satisfaction with that tool. Also, if you’d like to indicate public/private, it’d be appreciated. Answer as much or as little as you like, I do not want to be a burden on already busy schedules and workdays - if you want to just tell me the tool then that would be more than enough info. I’m reading lots of articles on the topic at the moment, and I haven’t seem much in terms of a comprehensive survey of institutions and the tools they use, but lots of ‘a building body of evidence indicates such-and such’ - I’d like to try and see more accurately what folks are using.
Thank you so much in advance, if you care to participate.
Steven Turner.
