A Day in the Life…
The Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL) Technical Development Specialist provides technical advice and support for academic and research activities in the lab to foster creative engagement with digital research methodologies, and support project development. The incumbent also monitors and maintains the physical conditions of the lab, and assists with troubleshooting public equipment.
As the Digital Scholarship Technical Support, you will:
Monitor public areas of the DSL, conduct daily walk-through and maintain awareness of physical conditions; identify and resolve/report problem as appropriate.
Troubleshoot public equipment in the DSL and report problems as appropriate.
Act as a technical resource expert and first line of referral for student staff and lab users by identifying, answering and reporting questions in person, by phone or via email.
Develop and deliver training to DSL staff on general knowledge of DSL tools, techniques and methods; provide support and guidance to staff, ensuring high-quality customer service.
Act as a liaison with student and faculty members to promote, coordinate and monitor usage of the space.
Develop, refine and recommend training resources related to digital tools and technologies (e.g. “how-to guides”) for implementation and deployment of the technologies used in the lab.
Assist faculty, staff and student in the use of various digital technologies and software applications, including providing one-on-one consultation around technical matters, project management and best practices.
Advise faculty on how to incorporate current and emerging digital technologies and methodologies into their research, instructional and learning needs.
Establish and maintain strong working relationship with educational technology partners across the campus (e.g. CPI and ITS) to showcase digital services and resources for faculty, staff and students.
Prepare and deliver workshops and symposia focused on the digital scholarship methodologies, tools and resources; demonstrate how digital technologies can be used to enhance teaching and learning.
Provide technical support and resource to the Library on specialized digital scholarship projects and other technical duties, as required.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of BrockLINC and Library resources and services.
Keep up to date on trends in digital scholarships methods and services; share the knowledge with other DSL and Library staff.
Contribute to the continuous development of the DSL by identifying and evaluating current and emerging digital tools and methodology.
Liaise with DSL staff to track and analyze usage data in DSL to identify trends, conduct assessment to evaluate user experience, and make recommendation on planning for future improvements.
Participate in committees as assigned; regularly liaise with campus partners to share resources, coordinate and/or deliver collaborative services.
What you need to succeed...
A university degree in a related field.
2+ years of experience in a post-secondary educational or research environment.
Cross disciplinary knowledge and technical expertise in several digital scholarship methodologies such as data analytics, data visualization, data manipulation, geospatial information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence (AI), web development, programming, or virtual objects and simulations.
Ability to effectively instruct lab users in the proper use of tools and equipment;
Ability to develop workshops and demonstrations that support defined learning and/or program objectives.
Skilled in establishing, and monitoring user experience benchmarks and metrics, identifying and recommending corrective action, if required.
Solid computer application skills including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word Processing, web applications.
Active listening, oral, and written interpersonal communication skill.
Ability to demonstrate a professional presentation style to engage and motivate users in small and large groups.
Strong customer service-orientation with the ability to be flexible and sensitive to meet the needs of a diverse user population.
Ability to develop and maintain sound working relationship with key internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to motivate, coach, mentor and encourage individuals.

Preferred or Asset Skills:
Experience supporting applications of digital technologies in a research environment.
Experience in a public service environment.
This is a 2 year term, 35 hour per week position.
I, $42,673 - $55,905*
* The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
