In close cooperation with the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel and the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München, the Leipzig University Library will implement a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to create a nation-wide web-based gateway for medieval and modern manuscripts. This gateway will serve as main system for german cultural institutions with manuscript holdings and will operate using state-of-the-art web technologies, interoperable image and metadata based on linked data principles (IIIF) and modern search engine systems.
Leipzig University Library’s project team is integrated into a dynamic environment using modern technologies and working on many diverse projects. We are looking for innovative employees with experience and knowledge in software development and IT infrastructure design based on the latest technologies who show a high degree of initiative in tackling the tasks and who are willing and able to participate in the technological conception and software design.
The following positions in this particular team at Leipzig University Library are to be filled from September 1, 2018:
Head of the IT Project team at Leipzig University Library (Research assistant)
(limited to 36 months)
Full-time, it is possible to work this position part-time, but only with at least 72% of full-time employment
up to public sector salary group 14 TV-L
Responsibilities:
Managing the IT project team at Leipzig University Library
Requirements management in cooperation with project partners from different disciplines
Coordinating and participating in the software development of the different international projects of the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and their corresponding Open Source applications
Development of specific solutions for interoperable data modeling based on Linked Data principles
Design and implementation of quality checks and automated tests in software development
Design and implementation of the publication of open source software
Considering usability criteria during the entire development process
Requirements:
Respective scientific University degree (Master degree or equivalent)
excellent knowledge of current programming languages and information technologies for web applications
Pronounced organizational skills, team spirit and cooperation skills
Highly developed skills in written and oral communication (including those with non IT-stemming scientists)
Ability to think conceptually and interdisciplinary
knowledge of the German and English language
