University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Digital Preservation Officer to work within our Libraries team for a fixed term contract, from 2nd January 2019 until 31st July 2020. This role will help introduce a digital preservation system and appropriate archive storage to ensure the long-term preservation of our digital holdings.
As the successful candidate, you will coordinate a preservation and archiving strand of a wider Integrated Scholarly Information project and work closely with Manuscripts and Special Collections staff. You will assist with the market appraisal and procurement of a digital preservation system; develop and implement standards, procedures, systems, tools and workflows; develop training and process and manage digital records.
You should be educated to degree level and have a postgraduate archive qualification or equivalent professional expertise. We will expect you to have in depth knowledge of digital preservation theory, standards and best practice, knowledge of data storage methods and experience of the management and preservation of born digital and digitised resources.
Manuscripts and Special Collections (MSC) is an Accredited Archive Service and part of the University of Nottingham Libraries, based on the King's Meadow Campus, we also have a dedicated exhibition gallery at Nottingham Lakeside Arts on University Park. MSC preserves and provides public access to the University's rich collection of archives, manuscripts, rare books and local studies materials. It holds nationally designated collections including the papers of leading Nottinghamshire families and their estates, the records of local businesses and organisations, including those of the Archdeaconry of Nottingham. It also includes the papers of political, diplomatic, literary, scientific and academic figures, including D.H. Lawrence; historical records of the University and its predecessor, University College Nottingham and named special collections of published works.
