Job Details:
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Library seeks to hire an Associate Librarian, Data Management Services. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Library Services, this dynamic individual will provide comprehensive and customized data services in support of the Center’s research needs. In this newly created position, the candidate will be responsible for designing services and programs to support research data management and data literacy, as well as developing policies and procedures for data curation, sharing, and reuse. The incumbent will promulgate awareness of our resources and services among researchers and postdocs/students through outreach and liaison activities.
The Associate Librarian will participate in internal/external committees, activities, and special projects and maintain awareness of data-related initiatives across the sciences, attend professional meetings, workshops and conferences for training and professional development.
YOU WILL
Develop data management standards based on users’ workflows that can be leveraged by all researchers.
Provide data lifecycle support to researchers through consultations, in-person and virtual reference services.
Assist in locating external datasets, writing data management plans, and identifying data management resources.
Anticipate and integrates new applications ensuring interoperability with current systems, resources, and repositories.
Work with library staff and various internal groups and departments to organize and access content (i.e. documents, data sets) via internal websites; develops appropriate departmental taxonomies.
Participate in the collaborative development of next-generation discovery tools and interfaces (e.g. data catalog).
Monitor the landscape of data management plans required by funding agencies (National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, etc.) and major biomedical publishers.

YOU HAVE
Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences or related degree (e.g. informatics, data science) and/or relevant experience 2-4 years. Having an MLIS is a plus.
Demonstrate understanding of the research process used in biomedical and health sciences with focus on the research lifecycle of data.
Demonstrate ability with data management best practices and familiarity with requirements from funding agencies and scholarly publishers.
Knowledge of linked data and semantic web concepts.
Experience with relevant XML-based standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, PREMIS, and authority control subject analysis.
Working knowledge of Open Source Applications and Expertise Databases, D-space, Fedora, CONTENTdm, or other CMS or Digital-Object Management System, research data repositories provided by the NIH and elsewhere (DBGap, TCGA, TCIA, etc.)
Working knowledge of metadata standards related to the description, access, and preservation of numeric data, such as the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) specification.
Work week: 37.5 hrs
Library Hours of Operation: 8:00am to 7:00pm, Monday – Friday
