The Digital Scholarship and Instruction Librarian is responsible for the creation, coordination, and assessment of digital methods that support teaching and learning in the library. Reporting to the Director of Digital Scholarship & Public Services, the Librarian works closely with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff engaging with emerging technology for projects and coursework. The incumbent will support scholarship at all levels by connecting students and faculty with methodology and best practices, as well as to the Library’s wealth of digital scholarly resources and programs. The incumbent collaborates with the Research Services, Special Collections, and Content & Digital Library Systems departments to support digital initiatives that enhance our instruction program and student research through training, workshops, and integration of digital pedagogy methods. The Librarian will stay abreast of new developments in the field, continuing to test and recommend new technology appropriate for library and instruction use. The person holding this position is expected to model best practices in student-centered pedagogy and their digital area of expertise, while maintaining a general awareness of the broad range of different digital technologies and methodologies available. This position will also help the Library cultivate relationships with campus and regional partners.
As a member of Research Services, the librarian will staff the reference desk and teach for the instruction program, critically assessing how technology can be leveraged to improve outcomes. As a member of the general faculty of Union College, the Librarian will also be expected to pursue a focused program of professional development, scholarly activity, and service.
