We have an exciting new opportunity to join MSK's Library as an Associate Librarian to lead Data Management Services and the evolving changes in the data lifecycle. Our team is looking for a creative and curious self-starter who is committed to providing comprehensive, customized data services in support of the Center's research needs.

 

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Library Services, this dynamic individual will be responsible for leading the design of services and programs to support research data management and data literacy, as well as developing policies and procedures for data curation, sharing, and reuse.

 

You will work closely with lab heads, researchers and postdocs/students to promulgate awareness of our resources and services through outreach and liaison activities. We also encourage you to participate in internal/external committees, conferences, activities and special projects to maintain awareness of data-related initiatives across the sciences.

 

You will:

Develop data management standards based on users’ workflows that can be leveraged by all researchers.
Provide data lifecycle support to researchers through consultations, in-person and virtual reference services.
Assist in locating external datasets, writing data management plans, and identifying data management resources.
Anticipate and integrates new applications ensuring interoperability with current systems, resources, and repositories.
Work with library staff and various internal groups and departments to organize and access content (i.e. documents, data sets) via internal websites; develops appropriate departmental taxonomies.
Participate in the collaborative development of next-generation discovery tools and interfaces (e.g. data catalog).
Monitor the landscape of data management plans required by funding agencies (National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, etc.) and major biomedical publishers.
You are:

A dedicated and focused individual that proactively seeks opportunities to partner and provide consultation services to the Sloan Kettering Institute and scientists in support of their research.
An individual who demonstrates ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.
A flexible team player, accurate, detail-oriented, and a fast learner.
You have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences or related degree (e.g. informatics, data science) and/or relevant experience 2-4 years. MLIS is a plus.
Experience in a medical/research library working with researchers is preferred
Demonstrate understanding of the research process used in biomedical and health sciences with focus on the research lifecycle of data.
Demonstrate ability with data management best practices and familiarity with requirements from funding agencies and scholarly publishers.
Knowledge of linked data and semantic web concepts.
Experience with relevant XML-based standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, PREMIS, and authority control subject analysis.
Working knowledge of Open Source Applications and Expertise Databases, D-space, Fedora, CONTENTdm, or other CMS or Digital-Object Management System, research data repositories provided by the NIH and elsewhere (DBGap, TCGA, TCIA, etc.)
Working knowledge of metadata standards related to the description, access, and preservation of numeric data, such as the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) specification.
Work week: 37.5 hrs

Library Hours of Operation: 8:00am to 7:00pm, Monday – Friday
