Miami University Libraries seeks an innovative, forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and service-minded colleague for the role of Electronic Resources Librarian/Assistant Librarian in the Access & Borrow Department (A&B). The position will provide leadership for electronic and continuing resources. This is an opportunity to reinvent and rebuild ERM services and tasks to maximize departmental resources. The new hire will administer a 4.1 million dollar budget, have primary oversight over electronic resource and serial workflows, and supervise two classified staff. The position carries responsibilities for scholarly activities and professional service for promotion and continuing contract.

The result of a recent libraries-wide reorganization, A&B provides the materials (physical, virtual, and spatial) which fuel learning. The department combines technical services (acquisitions, cataloging, serials, e-resources, discovery) and access services (circulation, reserves, document delivery). The department is responsible for the acquisition, licensing, and cataloging or archival processing of library resources, and management of the library's cataloging and discovery systems (including Sierra, EBSCO Discovery Service, EZProxy, Ebsco ERM Essentials) as well as all aspects of access services.

The Electronic Resources Librarian:

Supports, recommends, and implements new workflows and initiatives for managing and processing print and electronic resources; develops procedures and workflow routines which can be used to accomplish objectives and improve efficiency of A&B; liaises with Collection Development and Management Committee and subject selectors in evaluating and tracking resources and usage; contributes to and maintains accurate documentation of tasks and workflows.

Selects, evaluates, and works with library vendors; ensures oversight and management of collection fund expenditures, reports budget trends, creates and shares analytics and other reports that capture data needed for budget management and external reporting; takes lead in gathering and analyzing serials, e-book, database, other usage data, and related assessment.

Oversees the strategies, processes, and workflows of acquiring, paying for, describing, processing, and making resources discoverable; manages day-to-day activities related to the Libraries’ licensed e-resources throughout their life cycles; manages ongoing technical access to electronic resources and collaborates with other librarians and staff to maximize discovery of resources for patrons; works with Discovery Services Librarian and Systems Department to ensure resource and metadata integration into discovery services; troubleshoot e-resource access issues as needed, which may include communicating platform and database outages.

Stays abreast of new technology, national developments, and best practices in order to provide leadership for acquisitions, cataloging, and electronic resources management activities.

Assists in developing and maintaining an effective, collaborative, positive departmental environment; consults on selecting, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating library staff and communicating effectively within and across departments.

Manages activities relating to electronic resources, including setting and evaluating operational goals and staff performance, to make best use of resources, staff, technology, and services while recognizing synergy with other departments.

Maintains and enhance professional skills through regular and meaningful professional development activities; pursue an active career path contributing to the field of academic librarianship.

Contributes to ongoing integration of departmental staff across teams through training and supervision as applicable; public-facing support on an as-needed basis; and other duties as assigned.

Require: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or non-U.S. equivalent; two years of experience with the e-resource life cycle in an academic library, or equivalent; demonstrated knowledge of issues related to budgeting and contract and license interpretation; familiarity with the complete life cycle of continuing and electronic resources; proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex changing environment and complete tasks according to an established timeframe; demonstrated ability to perform accurate and detail-oriented work, including strong analytical and problem solving skills and use of data to make analysis-driven decisions; proven communication and interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, colleagues, faculty, students, and staff; knowledge of cataloging processes and techniques, and familiarity with basic cataloging standards, including RDA, Library of Congress Subject Heading practice, Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Classification systems, and MARC21 formats; commitment to participate in appropriate professional service and conduct research and scholarship, demonstrating ability to meet the Libraries’ promotion and continuing contract requirements (see http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/about/larps.pdf). The University will not sponsor H1-B for this position.

Desire: Experience with III Sierra, Ebsco Discovery Service, Ebsco ERM Essentials, EZ Proxy, Ebsco Holdings Management, and Springshare; experience working in a library that is a member of a consortium; demonstrated ability to devise innovative and creative solutions to problems and take well-informed risks; familiarity with and interest in NASIG Core Competencies for Electronic Resources Librarians.
