MAJOR FUNCTION:  Working Part-time (20 hours per week), provides general and advanced reference and research service and instruction to students and faculty in the assigned departments and programs  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides research assistance and instruction to students and faculty both as a generalist in the core curriculum and as the liaison to the academic programs in the assigned health programs within the Purcell School of Professional Programs
Works with faculty in assigned departments to develop an integrated, comprehensive information literacy program for each major 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTION 

In addition to the one-on-one instruction that occurs in research services, prepares and provides group instruction in the skills necessary for locating, assessing, and using information effectively 
Participates with the other librarians in the first-year information literacy program (e.g., COR 100 and Personal Librarian Program)
Participates with the other librarians in the development of a comprehensive information literacy program
Provides instruction in advanced library research skills in key courses for undergraduates and graduate students in assigned departments

REFERENCE AND RESEARCH SERVICES 

Apply and advocate a positive public service ethic that supports teaching, scholarship, and learning
As a generalist and subject liaison, builds an ongoing understanding of the disciplines and relevant library resources to navigate all fields of study
Contributes to the development of a working reference collection and research tools, such as guides and tutorials, that best fits the research needs of students, faculty, and the greater Le Moyne College community in assigned subject areas  
Contributes and participates in the learning commons partnership
Provides research assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the wider community through services such as in-person, online, email and research consultations
Scholarly Communication: Assists faculty in assigned departments in their general understanding of all manner of research and publication, from basic copyright guidelines, to formal peer review, new licensing arrangements, to the adoption of new and open models for peer review and scholarly dissemination 
Provides specialized research service to individual faculty and students in assigned academic programs

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

Develops collections in assigned subject areas to serve undergraduate majors and minors and graduate programs, reviews and evaluates collections for withdrawal, replacement, or repair, and reviews gift materials to determine if they should be added to collections
In collaboration with the other librarians arranges trials of new electronic products in assigned subject areas and finds funding for new products added; Implements access to electronic resources in assigned subject areas through web pages or other advanced information technology; and troubleshoots access and maintenance issues for electronic resources in assigned subject areas
Liaise with faculty chairs and/or departmental library liaisons regarding budget allocations and selection strategies in assigned subject areas

PLANNING &amp; ASSESSMENT

In conjunction with all the librarians, assist in the development of the library strategic plan
Conduct periodic evaluation of the breadth and use of collections in assigned subject areas

COMMUNICATIONS &amp; OUTREACH

Keep academic program chairs and faculty and Purcell Council abreast of material budgets and new research products and collections
Prepares statistical reports and evaluations of library collections, services, instruction, and usage for academic departmental evaluations, accreditation reviews, and new program development in the assigned subject areas

PROFESSIONAL

Maintains awareness of the state of information resources in assigned areas,  librarianship, and reference service
Contributes to library wide initiatives by serving on library, campus, inter-institutional or consortium committees, participating in strategic planning initiatives, and cooperating closely with other library units
In conjunction with the other librarians, develops, evaluates, and reviews library policies and procedures, and prepares assessment data and reports, including annual report  
Contributes to the Library's continuous  assessment and improve library operations and services through data collection and analysis
Carries out other duties as assigned that contribute to the achievement of the library's strategic plan, the completion of special projects, the regular delivery of library services, or the development of new initiatives
Serves on library and college committees as needed
Supports the mission of Le Moyne College and its commitment to the vision and values of Jesuit higher education

GENERAL
Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Library
 


Requirements:

EDUCATION: Required: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree; Preferred: Baccalaureate major in health sciences or the equivalent in medical librarianship.  

PREREQUISITES:

Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgments based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities
Knowledge of library related and other computer applications
Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work collaboratively across organizational units

Preference will be given to applications received by Friday, August 26, 2019. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
