Miami University Libraries are extending the search for an innovative, forward-thinking, tech-savvy, and service-minded colleague for the role of Discovery Librarian in the Access & Borrow Department (A&B). The result of a recent libraries-wide reorganization, A&B provides the materials (physical, virtual, and spatial) which fuel learning. The department combines technical services (acquisitions, cataloging, serials, e-resources, discovery) and access services (circulation, reserves, document delivery). The new hire will foster a seamless experience for staff and users in discovering and accessing library resources. The position reports to the A&B Department Head and serves as liaison to the Libraries’ IT staff.
Responsibilities include:
Maintains and troubleshoots software (EBSCO Discovery Services, EZ Proxy, Sierra) as primary or in conjunction with IT, including but not limited to developing and maintaining load profiles and upgrading webpac
Supports, recommends, develops, and implements new workflows, scripts, and initiatives (e.g. automation, macros) for improving access to and use of vendor systems (e.g. OCLC, YBP Gobi, Springshare); works with department staff and other departments to identify tasks suitable for streamlining through development of appropriate applications
Coordinates with relevant OhioLINK consortial committees to sync local catalog/software practices; collaborate with cataloging and metadata colleagues to ensure timely adoption and support of traditional and evolving practices (e.g. RDA, MARC, LCSH, BIBFRAME)
Works with Electronic Resources Librarian and Systems Department to ensure resource and metadata integration into discovery services; troubleshoot e-resource access issues as needed, which may include communicating platform and database outages; collaborates with and backs up Electronic Resources Librarian in managing ongoing technical access to electronic resources and collaborates with other librarians and staff to maximize discovery of resources for patrons
Stays abreast of new technology, national developments, and best practices; monitors and evaluates emerging technologies and makes recommendations for adoption, as appropriate
Maintains and enhances professional skills through regular and meaningful professional development activities; pursues an active career path contributing to the field of academic librarianship
Assists in developing and maintaining an effective, collaborative, positive departmental environment; contributes to ongoing integration of departmental staff across teams as applicable; consults on selecting, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating library staff and communicating effectively within and across departments; public-facing support on an as-needed basis

Require:
Master’s degree in library or information science
Demonstrated experience with administering a library discovery product and/or a library management system (ILS)
Demonstrated familiarity with current library softwares and technologies (such as III Sierra, EZProxy, OCLC Connexion, MARCEdit, ILLiad, Springshare library suite)
Ability to work independently and manage projects successfully
Proven communication and interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, colleagues, faculty, students, and staff
Knowledge of cataloging processes and techniques, and familiarity with basic cataloging standards, including RDA, Library of Congress Subject Heading practice, Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Classification systems, and MARC21 formats
Commitment to participate in appropriate professional service and conduct research and scholarship, demonstrating ability to meet the Libraries’ promotion and continuing contract requirements (see http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/about/larps.pdf).
Appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian dependent upon qualifications.

Strong interest in emerging technologies and general trends in librarianship and higher education
Familiarity with web APIs and mobile technologies
