The University Libraries seeks an enterprising, creative and collaborative individual for the position of Content Strategy Librarian in the User Experience and Assessment Department. Under the direction of the Head of User Experience and Assessment, this position connects students, staff, faculty, and the Libraries’ community to our collections and services by coordinating and managing the Libraries’ online platforms including LibGuides, LibCal, and WordPress.
The Content Strategy Librarian is responsible for organizing, administering, and improving the Libraries’ web content. They work with subject librarians to evaluate the needs, usage and effectiveness of the Libraries’ content. To ensure library content is available and accurate, they conduct accessibility audits, manage WordPress’ configuration and content structure, train staff, and create guidelines & best practices. This position uses analytics to steer improvements and inform projects, and partners with the User Research Librarian to better understand our diverse users’ needs. The Content Strategy Librarian also serves as an advocate for accessibility in the Libraries’ digital projects.
The Content Strategy Librarian represents the Libraries on campus-wide initiatives. They work with campus support services including ITS Teaching and Learning and the Center for Faculty Excellence.
Using a deep understanding of the Libraries’ collections, services, user needs, and stakeholder objectives, develops and oversees an overall content strategy for the University Libraries’ web presence
Develops and implements best practices and style guides for creating high-quality and accessible library content
Develops detailed plans for creating meaningful, cohesive, engaging and sustainable library content, and writes effective examples of this content to guide librarians and staff
Conducts content inventories, audits, analyses, and other research required to offer recommendations on content strategy and related workflows
Oversees and curates web content, identifies new content needs, and uses scalable content development processes to enable the creation of compelling content that will support users as they explore the Libraries’ collections and services
Mentors other librarians and library staff content owners through the process of creating and improving content, empowering independent upkeep
Trains other librarians and staff and provides related documentation on library content standards and best practices, with a particular emphasis on accessibility and usability
Develops project timelines, coordinates with project teams, tracks project tasks, and creates and maintains project documentation as related to current User Experience and Assessment projects
Communicates project priorities and goals clearly with project stakeholders, developers, and library-wide staff
Provides advice and consultation for additional websites and tools in the Libraries to achieve a consistent voice and design
Participates in UNC Libraries’ initiatives, serve on Library committees and engages with professional associations related to library web development
REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or equivalent relevant degree.
Demonstrated knowledge of content strategy methods as they relate to libraries or other mission-driven entities; this may include a variety of channels, including Web site, e-mail communications, and social media.
Demonstrated experience connecting faculty and students with information to advance their scholarly and educational goals, preferably in an academic research environment
Understanding of the information-finding needs of students, staff, faculty, and community of a large academic research environment
Knowledge of current web accessibility standards and their implementation
A passion for assessing audience & user needs
Knowledge of the principles of user experience design
Familiarity with the principles of library website design and related best practices. Demonstrated ability to work effectively on complex projects involving numerous stakeholders, including experience with facilitation, consensus building, and conflict resolution
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing
A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working with WordPress, LibGuides, and/or LibCal
Writing and editorial experience
Experience conducting large-scale web content audits and/or related user research
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or comparable software.

Salary and Benefits
This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
