Department Summary
The University of Oregon Libraries is an essential partner in the University’s educational, research, and public service mission. With five locations on the Eugene campus, and branches at UO Portland and at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, the Libraries offers many flexible, service- and technology-rich environments for our users’ research and learning needs. The University of Oregon Libraries is the only Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member in Oregon. The library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, Oregon WIN, SPARC, Center for Research Libraries, DuraSpace, the Council on Library and Information Resources, Coalition for Networked Information, EDUCAUSE, and other major organizations.

Library Technology Services (LTS) manages library infrastructure and provides a wide range of technology services that directly support the UO Libraries and University mission. These include core library infrastructure and systems, application development and integration, and computer support services for library facilities, labs, services, and personnel. LTS also partners with technology-intensive Library units such as Digital Scholarship Services, Data Services, and the Price Science Commons and Research Library (PSC Library) to provide integrated services and solutions in support of the University’s mission.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Library Technology Services, the Core Systems Librarian has primary responsibility for the daily management, configuration, and support of the Discovery and Unified Resource Management [ILS] services, currently Ex Libris Alma and Primo. The discovery service, Primo, is used by UO students, faculty, and staff to locate and access electronic, print, and digital resources. The management service, Alma, is used by library staff to perform the responsibilities of their positions, as well as meeting the research needs of students and faculty who need access to the library’s collections.

The UO Libraries are a part of the Orbis Cascade Alliance (http://www.orbiscascade.org/) and are deeply invested, along with our partner institutions, in the support and extension of the shared Unified Resource Management and shared Discovery environment. The Core Systems Librarian will be the primary UO contact with Ex Libris and with the Alliance in efforts like product enhancement voting and strategic efforts such as Shared ILS RFP creation and related product investigations.

The Core Systems Librarian’s work focuses on system configuration, troubleshooting, training, data retrieval and analysis, and documentation. The Librarian has responsibility for maintaining optimal system performance for UO users and the development of services based on the functionality and capabilities of Alma and Primo. In the work of identifying (with specialist staff) and implementing functionality extensions, the Librarian will work closely with colleagues on the Libraries’ Application Development & Integration (ADI) Team.

The Core Systems Librarian will have deep knowledge of the Alma and Primo services. The Librarian will provide leadership and management of the integrated modules of Alma and Primo, focusing on system configuration, troubleshooting, training, analytics, and documentation. The Librarian will also lead the UO’s support for Alma (monthly) and Primo (currently quarterly) releases. The Core Systems Librarian also will support other library applications. The Librarian’s work will need to be performed with considerable judgement, independence, and initiative, and in consultation with Alliance colleagues.

The Core Systems Librarian is expected to take an active role in professional development and scholarship activities, a requirement to meet Library promotion and retention guidelines. This enables the incumbent to keep abreast of developments in library technologies and to maintain current awareness of information tools needed to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, and community users of the Libraries. This position also contributes to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.

Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Two years of professional experience providing primary support for an integrated library system.

Professional Competencies
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
• Strong project management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot technical problems, isolate causes, and implement solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the provision of library services.
• Aptitude and ability to develop in-depth knowledge of specialized library applications.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse colleagues, faculty, and students.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision, be self-motivated and independently prioritize work.
• Potential to meet Library’s requirements for promotion and review, which require professional contributions and service.
• Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with the Ex Libris Alma and Primo library services platform.
• Strong experience with technology applications and public/technical services.
