Web Development Librarian
The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a talented, energetic, innovative, and entrepreneurial professional who desires to work in a creative, collaborative, and respectful environment. S/he will identify and implement promising new technologies that can positively impact services or generate a better user experience. Reporting to the Manager of Web Technologies and Development, this position will engage in project work and support new technology initiatives derived from our strategic plan and opportunities that arise as part of our teaching, research, and service missions. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, maintaining and enhancing our web presence in its many forms; extending web frameworks, applications and tools; and developing modern system integrations. The University Libraries is a beta development partner with EBSCO Industries on the FOLIO Library Services Platform; further development opportunities exist there as well.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program, or advanced terminal degree in a comparable field from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
Ability to deal with change, ambiguity, and complex problems in an academic setting.
Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
Ability to conceptualize, communicate, and execute plans to meet short- and long-term goals.
Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize activities, and adhere to production schedules and deadlines.
Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.
Ability to problem solve creatively while learning new technologies and working in a dynamic environment.
Current awareness of best practices in all areas of responsibility.
Experience with LAMP/LAPP systems.
Experience developing within a CMS such as WordPress or Drupal environment.
Familiarity with JavaScript front-end programming, async JS methods, JSON/XML, HTML 5, and CSS3.
A desire to help develop awesome projects.
Job duties continue to change with the evolving research library environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years of programming and development experience.
Experience developing for and supporting academic library applications such as CONTENTdm, DSpace, etc.
Experience interacting with and manipulating REST API data.
Experience with professional workflows using IDEs, Taskrunners, Git, staging servers, and unit testing.
Experience with general web security issues, HTTPS, and developing secure applications.
Experience developing for and within open-source projects.
Experience with Java.
Familiarity with development frameworks, such as RoR, Angular/Node, or React.
Some awareness of accessibility issues and solutions.

SALARY/BENEFITS: 12 month non-tenure track renewal contract faculty appointment at the assistant professor rank, depending on qualifications. Salary range is $55,000 – $70,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and advanced degrees. Strong benefits, including professional development support, tuition fee waiver, and matching retirement contributions.
