Position Details
The Office of Library Services (OLS) at the Central Administrative Office of CUNY supports the 31 libraries at the University’s 25 campuses to coordinate and enhance library services for students and faculty in partnership with campus librarians. OLS facilitates discovery of and access to CUNY Libraries’ collections and to the University's scholarly record. OLS supports enterprise library applications and centralized services delivering system-wide resource management, technical services, and digital repository services. Essential systems managed include CUNY Academic Works (bepress Digital Commons), unified resource management (Ex Libris Alma), discovery (Ex Libris Primo VE), off-campus authentication (OCLC EZproxy), and others.
OLS seeks an experienced University Collaborative Systems Librarian to advance the goals and assignments of the department by managing and contributing to resource management, discovery, resource sharing, and fulfillment in the Alma Network Zone. Reporting to the University Director of Library Systems, the University Collaborative Systems Librarian partners with librarians and staff across the CUNY Libraries to establish and document relevant policies and procedures to ensure efficient workflows supporting discovery and delivery of the libraries’ print and digital collections.
Other key duties performed include, but will not be limited to, the following:
Manage the implementation of the Alma Network Zone for the CUNY Libraries.
Assess consortial needs and recommend and implement approved Network Zone policies, procedures, and access.
Facilitate consensus on CUNY-wide cataloging policies and workflows that promote University-wide collaboration.
Participate in managing shared electronic content maintained in the Network Zone, including the import, creation, activation, and maintenance of shared electronic collections and testing of shared collections in the Primo VE discovery environment.
Troubleshoot issues arising within the Network Zone or individual campus Institution Zone environments and resolve them in support of the campus libraries.
Monitor existing, new, and proposed Network Zone functionality to support increased collaborative work, including engaging the technical services community about needed functionality and advocating with vendors for improvements and issue resolution.
Collaborate with library and university staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure the needs of all CUNY Libraries are considered in decisions.
Represent OLS on university-wide library committees and task forces as required.
Participate in OLS strategic planning, the development of library policies and procedures, and the evaluation of library goals
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ related experience required.
MLS degree and/or Master’s in a related field may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer and Information Science, or related field.
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or other Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, or related field may be substituted for up to 2 years of the required experience.
At least 3 years of experience with consortial database maintenance, preferably with Alma and Primo VE.
Demonstrated experience with metadata schema (MARC, Dublin Core, METS, FRBR, RDA), working with MARC bibliographic records; familiarity with linked data models, building and running batch processes; knowledge and understanding of cataloging and acquisitions workflows.
Experience with national bibliographic utilities (OCLC), integrated library systems, vendor cataloging services, authority control services, and automated routines for bibliographic maintenance.
Demonstrated experience with managing electronic resources and using web-based APIs for data retrieval or management.
Ability to create documentation in various forms, including communicating a high level of technical detail to a variety of audiences.
Detail oriented and precise with strong research, evaluation, writing, and analytical skills.
Pro-active, flexible and collaborative work style with strong interpersonal communication, presentation, group facilitation, and negotiation skills to forge successful relationships and partnerships with diverse members of the university community and external constituents.
Experience supervising, training, and evaluating staff.
Computer proficiency using academic, administrative, and financial systems, databases, and programs, plus virtual meeting/conferencing and collaboration tools.
