This position will perform both copy and original cataloging of physical books. They will be cross-trained to catalog DVDs and audio recordings as well as cross-trained to catalog other advanced formats such as scores and Special Collections items. This position will catalog digital collections in the digital collection’s content management system (CMS), and will also do some cataloging in our archives information management system, working with other catalogers in the unit. This position will use several resources for their work including OCLC Connexion, CONTENTdm, ArchivesSpace and III Sierra.
Must understand the aspects of MARC coding in relation to bibliographic and authority records
Ability to search and edit records in the Sierra ILS or in other cataloging ILS software
Experience searching in OCLC Connexion
Knowledge of cataloging rules—RDA, LC-PCC PS and AACR2/LCRI.
Requires knowledge of applying the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) and using the Library of Congress Classification and Shelflisting Manual or Classification Web to search these.
Requires knowledge of applying Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and the ability to navigate software such as OCLC Connexion and Classification Web to search these.
Requires knowledge of searching other authority files such as Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), U.S. Board on Geographic Names (USGS), and LC Thesaurus for Graphic Materials (TGM).
Requires knowledge and experience with other cataloging software such as Connexion, III Sierra, ArchivesSpace, and MarcEdit.
Must be able to perform work requiring accuracy and considerable attention to detail without close supervision. Must be able to work in a production-oriented environment. Must have a proven ability to maintain effective working relations with coworkers and supervisors.
