Whatcom Community College invites applications for a full time, tenure-track faculty Systems Librarian beginning fall quarter, 2021 or as soon as can be arranged with successful candidate.  This individual plays an active leadership role in the planning, development, management and support of the library’s technological infrastructure, electronic resources, and the library’s web presence. In collaboration with staff in the College’s Information Technology Services department the Systems Librarian will share leadership and responsibility for planning, developing, integrating, implementing, and maintaining the digital systems and services through which the Library supports users in finding, using, preserving, and sharing information. The Systems Librarian’s primary focus will include technical aspects of library systems across all the library’s functions, with greater emphasis on the Library Service Platform (LSP), electronic resources, interlibrary services system, and collaboration with staff supporting the digital repository and publishing systems. The Library uses a mixture of proprietary and open-source systems, including Ex Libris’s Alma LSP and Primo VE discovery layer; Omeka-S; and WordPress and PressBooks. The System Librarian is expected to actively participate in the WACTCLC (Washington Community and Technical College Library Consortium) and ELUNA (Ex Libris Users of North America).

The successful applicant is expected to:

Lead the planning, development, evaluation and coordination of LSP services and manage the life cycle of electronic resources that support end users in the productive use of library systems.
Administer and maintain the Alma/Primo LSP. Utilize ALMA Analytics and other tools to generate reports for all library departments. Monitor and communicate new features and updates.  
Ensure discoverability of content in Primo Discovery and on the library website. Troubleshoot access and contractual problems; support and maintain administrative data for digital resources including collecting and analyzing usage statistics and other management reports; analyze license agreements and track subscriptions. Work with the IT department to troubleshoot the proxy server and EZproxy management software.
Keep abreast of current and emerging communications technologies, library systems, databases and digital services. Recommend appropriate software purchases and service subscriptions. Participate in development of the library budget.
Collaborate with technical, academic, and administrative departments to produce dynamic and responsive information delivery. Take proactive steps to ensure strong working relationships with other administrative and academic departments.
Provide training, instruction, and technical support to students and employees for new and existing library software and services, and related information literacy skills.
Successfully foster and support student retention, and inclusive educational and employment environment.
Identify and contribute to activities that promote student development such as student clubs and/or other volunteer activities, e.g., the  graduation ceremony; and 
to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Salary and Appointment

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, information and technology management, or related field. 
Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools with intermediate to advance Excel skills. Preferred: familiarity with PHP, XML/XSLT, SQL and basic HTML/CSS.
2 years’ experience managing a Library Service Platform. Preferred: Alma and Primo certification or similar LSP certification.
Familiarity with the MARC cataloging format and/or one or more non-MARC metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, VRA).
Evidence of interest in undergraduate education that involves student-centered inquiry and undergraduate research. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master's degree in Library and Information Science, information and technology management, or related field.
Ability to establish and maintain excellent cooperative working relationships with individuals and departments.
Experience with open source and legacy software and hardware commonly found in libraries &amp; archives.
Experience with general web application security issues such as SSO and HTTPS.
Knowledge of standards, protocols and structures, such as OpenURL, EDI, OAI-PMH.
Experience with culturally relevant content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging diverse users.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities with students and colleagues.
Knowledge and understanding of Universal Design for Learning, accessibility and usability; and experience using a learning management system, preferably Canvas.

 Salary and Appointment: 
The 2021-2022 Bachelor's degree salary begins at $54,286,  Master’s degree salary begins at $58,286 ( (additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the actual starting salary); 174-plus day annual contract.
