West Virginia University Libraries is currently accepting applications for a Software Engineer/Full Stack Developer.
About the Opportunity
As a Software Engineer/Full Stack Developer, you will work as part of a team to maintain and upgrade existing software applications, as well as develop new software solutions. You will also work with library faculty and staff to determine the best software solutions to meet the Libraries’ needs in a collaborative environment.
To be successful in this role you should have an interest in learning new technologies and programming languages. You must communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, as well as be able to work as part of a team with members of varying levels of technical expertise.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Ruby/Ruby on Rails, PHP, Git, Github, Javascript, HTML, and CSS/SASS. As the developer, you will work with junior software engineers to develop best practices and provide training as needed.
The position will report to the Head of Digital and Web Services. Remote/Telecommute or hybrid work will be considered.

Duties
The duties will include but are not limited to:
Performing variety of computer programming functions in support of Library operations, including database applications in support of library projects, for example the metadata form creation system (MFCS) used to manage digital collections and web applications to support library operations, teaching, and research.
Evaluating and auditing software written by others in the WVU Libraries Systems Development Office. Fully participate in the design of locally created applications in support of the Library’s mission.
Designing, developing, and working in a shared/version-controlled (GIT) development and deployment environment with content personnel, designers, and developers.
Meeting weekly with the WVU Libraries Software Development team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
A minimum of four (4) years of experience involving:
Programming experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, PHP, and Javascript.
Experience with MySQL, Postgres, and other relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
Programming Languages
Node.js
CSS/Sass
HTML
XML/XSLT
Additional programing language proficiency a plus.
Samvera, Fedora, and/or Blacklight development experience
Experience using Git and GitHub
Experience using Docker
Elasticsearch, Solr, or other Search Indexing experience
