Position Title: Web Content Strategist

Job Group: Professional &amp; Scientific

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants may not need to meet all the preferred requirements to be a successful candidate. 

Ability and interest to engage in and contribute to the library's ongoing DEI efforts. 
Ability to establish collaborative working relationships and interact effectively with diverse groups - internal and external. 
Capability to plan, coordinate, manage, and monitor multiple projects. 
Experience with web authoring tools (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) and web development technologies like HTML and CSS. 
A working knowledge of accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0) and Section 508 guidelines, search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, and SEO writing. 
Knowledge of or experience with user research and usability testing. 

Job Description:

The University Library's information technology department is accepting applications for a Web Content Strategist (Communications Specialist II). This position is responsible for ensuring the library's web presence adheres to current usability standards, is accessible, follows university guidelines, and caters to our diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and external audiences interested in our library collections and services. In this role, the incumbent reports to the director of information technology and is a member of the web services team.  They will collaborate with stakeholders across the library, and work closely with the library's communications team and assessment program manager. In addition, they will serve as a functional or technical co-owner for several of the library's applications for assessment and web analytics, including Siteimprove and Google Analytics. 

The University Library is planning a comprehensive website rebuild, including redesigning the website's information architecture and improvements to the website's overall appearance, content, and design. The Web Content Strategist will be instrumental in the success of this project.  

Primary responsibilities of this position include: 


Coordinates complex projects involving team members from multiple library divisions; manages distinct projects from conception to completion, including proposal development, planning, testing, stakeholder acceptance, and documentation of lessons learned. 


Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and publish updated content, including re-writing, re-thinking, and re-organizing content. 


Ensure that content is written and edited according to web writing standards. 


Provide training to content creators and editors on web writing best practices. 


Develop content strategies that facilitate the management of content over its lifespan, ensuring that information is accurate, timely, usable, accessible, appropriate, searchable, and well-organized. 


Utilize user research techniques for content creation, including usability tests, focus groups, interviews with users, and analysis of data within Google Analytics. 


Establish guidelines and standards for the website and applications related to the library's mobile and web presence, following best practices for web accessibility and universal design.  


Apply content principles and guidelines, the use of conversational, friendly, and simple language, and a tone that is helpful, informative, and timely. 


Provide creative solutions while following established guidelines and graphic brand standards.  


2-year appointment with the possibility of extension.
