The Scholarly Communications Librarian, under general supervision, serves as a member of the Research & Assessment department. This individual will participate in the library’s information literacy program and provide leadership on scholarly communications and open educational resources (OER).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership, coordination, and administration of RIO, Killam Library’s instance of Digital Commons.
Plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable services and policies that support open access, preservation and broad dissemination of University research and data.
Provide support for the Killam Library’s OER initiatives in collaboration with faculty, staff and campus stakeholders.
Design and provide instruction, continuing education, and online resources for students, staff, and faculty related to scholarly communication topics (open access, copyright, publishing processes, publishing tools, author rights, etc.)
Teach and promote the library’s instructional program based on goals and strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for information literacy.
Collaborate with others and work individually to produce and maintain a variety of informational and instructional materials such as online tutorials and reference guides.
Collaborate with university faculty, staff, and students to promote and integrate information literacy.
Maintain knowledge of, and engage in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends in scholarly communication issues.
Attend meetings, participate in special projects and serve on committees relating to the library, the University, and consortia.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
Preferred Education and Experience
Familiarity with scholarly communication, open access, and open education.
Familiarity with institutional repository and publishing software.
Experience designing and administering information literacy instruction and incorporating best pedagogical approaches to information literacy.
Familiarity with current and emerging trends in librarianship, specifically information literacy instruction and collection resources designed to support assigned liaison areas, preferably in STEM disciplines.
Experience or familiarity with:
Media creation (video, audio, and visual)
Teaching through Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.)
