GENERAL PURPOSE
The Digital Scholarship (DS) Developer supports faculty and student research through the creation of digital tools and platforms in order to create new knowledge and technology-rich experiential learning opportunities. The DS Developer consults primarily with faculty and graduate students to help troubleshoot research challenges and provide recommendations and training on specific digital scholarship approaches and platforms. Reporting to the Director of Digital Scholarship and Studio X, the DS Developer participates in strategic conversations around digital scholarship and related platforms; researches, analyzes, and gives feedback on potential digital scholarship projects; designs and develops applications in collaboration with research teams; and oversees student developers working on faculty projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Masters degree or Bachelors degree plus relevant programming experience (8+ years combined between education and experience)
Object oriented programming languages (at least two or more of the following: Python, PHP, JavaScript, Java, C++)
Multiple development stacks (ex., LAMP or MERN)
CMS and MVC frameworks (at least two or more of the following: Drupal, WordPress, Omeka, Django)
Modern front-end frameworks (must know React)
Version control software (Git)
Unix shell
Databases (SQL and NoSQL)
Build tools and package managers (CMake, npm, pip)
Software deployment platforms (ex., Apple App Store and Google Play Store)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and engage with stakeholders
Preferred:
Virtualization platforms (Docker, Vagrant)
One or more 3D frameworks (three.js, WebGL, OpenGL)
Image processing or computer vision libraries (OpenCV, FFmpeg)
3D reconstruction and processing (MeshLab, Cloud Compare)
