Position Description

The MOBIUS Full Stack Developer works in a small team environment serving both internal and external customers at all skill levels. The incumbent assists in supporting and maintaining IT services, including customer support to the MOSS (MOBIUS Open Source Solutions) clients, migrating new customers to MOSS hosting, contributing to open-source projects, and developing new features, enhancements, and code for custom applications.

As a not-for-profit organization that works with libraries of nearly all sizes and types, it is critical for this position to have a high degree of skill across a broad range of technical areas, be adaptable, and be able to identify and implement low-cost but effective solutions. The position requires a high degree of interaction with people; sound customer service principles must be applied while fulfilling the technical functions. Work includes a wide range of responsibility, providing high-level support.

 

Basic Function and Responsibilities

This professional information technology position is responsible for supporting and maintaining all MOBIUS internal and external IT infrastructure. The position requires knowledge of Postgres, Perl, Linux, and a desire to contribute to the open source community. Responsibilities include extracting and migrating data to the open-source systems, responding to client support requests, developing new application features, and defining, designing, and writing code for custom applications.

 

Characteristic Duties



Administrative Duties



Work in a team environment with the rest of the IT department


Assist in managing all requirements of SOC2 Type 2 auditing


Create, plan, test, implement, and document projects to better serve users’ needs


May provide assistance in mapping out specifications regarding software, hardware, and network options





Applications/Software Development



File and/or fix bug reports with open source communities, according to established community procedures


Contribute to community development of software





Data migration



Export data from libraries’ previous systems


Analyze source data to ensure quality and completeness


Manipulation and cleanup of source data to prepare for import


Creation and documentation of scripts to facilitate import of source data





Help Desk



Analyze and troubleshoot all manner of technical issues


Answer Help Desk questions from clients





Training



Develop and maintain personal knowledge of supported products


Attend training and obtain required software and hardware certifications




 

Supervision Received

Direct supervision received from the Associate Director, Open Source Initiatives, with additional supervision from the Executive Director

 

Qualifications


Practical experience with Linux


Technical experience of SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)


Practical experience with Perl software development


Practical knowledge writing in one or more programming languages


Expert experience with web site development, HTML/CSS


Experience with Git and GitHub


Ability to work and learn both independently and as part of a team


Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross-departmental project team


Time management, organizational, and project management skills


Ability to work under pressure, meet inflexible deadlines, and deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure


Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of users and other technical staff


Strong customer service skills


 

Additional Desirable Qualifications


Experience implementing, integrating, and contributing to open source software projects


Experience with Integrated Library Systems, ArchivesSpace, Omeka, or other library-related open source software
