The mission of Mount Saint Mary's University Libraries is to inspire inquiry, foster intellectual and personal growth, and promote the effective use of information. As an academic library dedicated to serving a diverse community, we provide information access that reflects many voices and perspectives.

The Systems and Technology Librarian helps to foster a technologically advanced environment for the MSMU Libraries. They strive to problem solve, troubleshoot, improve existing processes, and help others learn new technology skills.  A key role for the Systems and Technology Librarian is the administration of the integrated library system that underpins the operations of the MSMU Libraries and serves as a platform for other software applications such as discovery systems, link resolvers, library knowledge bases, and interlibrary loan programs. Other key roles include direct support and/or administration of library management applications, the library website, and the institutional repository.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Administers and maintains integrated library system (ILS) Sierra - Innovative, including updates, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Ensures ILS works seamlessly with other library applications including discovery systems, link resolvers, and library knowledge bases.
Ensures successful migration to and implementation of new ILS.
Coordinates with Archives &amp; Special Collections Librarian to administer various systems used by the unit; includes the institutional repository (Digital Commons), archives management system (Archivera), and DAM system (Merlin).
Collaborates with various units to review, develop, maintain, and propose changes to the institutional repository.
Serves as support for development and maintenance of the library website hosted on the Terminal Four (T4) platform under the direction of supervisor.
Supports library connection to Canvas, the University's learning management system (LMS). Coordinates with Instructional Design team to update and provide access to library resources using LibGuides or any future eReserves application in Canvas.
Coordinates with all library staff to implement and train for all library related applications -- LibApps suite, discovery service, eReserves platform, ERM, CMS, Tableau, Digital Commons, Archivera, Merlin, etc.
Performs user security audits for editing access and privileges in library systems.
Keeps abreast of responsive solutions, best practices, and trends in the quickly evolving library and IT landscape.
Coordinates with the Office of Information Technology to ensure server changes, migrations, IP address changes, single sign-on implementation, Colleague data exports, and system upgrades occur with minimal disruption to the libraries' website, databases, discovery service, ILS, and vendors.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as training resource for staff and students in library applications as needed. -- ILS, collaboration tools, any other academic technology application, etc.  
Hires, trains, and supervises student assistants to support ILS and other systems as needed.
Delivers instruction to students, staff, or faculty for various library systems and technology as needed.
Works on special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of industry standards, practices, vendor markets, and trends in academic library technology.
Knowledge of ILS client/server environment and software needed to administer application environments.
Familiarity with standards and trends in web browser display and application technologies, including usability, cross-browser compatibility issues, and universal design for accessibility is desirable. 
Familiarity with a variety of library vendors and platforms (LibApps, OCLC, Rapid ILL, Archivera, Digital Commons, eReserves platforms, EBSCO EDS, etc.) is desirable.
Familiarity with trends and solutions for website development and maintenance, cloud services, DAM systems, customer ticketing systems, project management applications, and other general business solutions as they may apply to the libraries is desirable.
Familiarity with common library interoperability protocols (OAI, Z39.50, SRU), metadata frameworks (MARC, Dublin Core, BIBFRAME), cataloging principles (RDA, Linked Data) is desirable.
Familiarity with learning management systems; knowledge of Canvas desired, but not required.

Abilities and Skills:

Ability to be flexible, adapt, and learn emerging technologies as needed.
Ability to troubleshoot various systems issues and serve as lead for resolving them.
Ability to ensure the functionality of the integrated library system (ILS) and related systems.
Ability to administer client/server environments and their supporting software applications.
Ability to design and modify coded content with standard web browser display and application technologies including usability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility issues.  
Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
Ability to lead effective training and instruction.
Ability to communicate complex technical issues in an accessible way to facilitate clear and concise email communication.
Ability to create local documentation related to library systems; technical writing skills are desirable.
Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
Evidence of strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and assessment skills.
Evidence of strong service orientation and understanding of institution-specific needs.                 
Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, staff, and faculty.

Education:

Required:  Bachelor's degree with experience relevant to the position
Preferred:  Master's degree in library and information science/studies from an ALA-accredited institution or master's degree with experience relevant to the position

Experience:

Experience working in an academic library with evidence of broad, in-depth technology and systems knowledge skills, preferably working directly with integrated library systems.
General experience with integrated library systems, library technology, search and discovery platforms, automation, and web services.
Experience with migrations and implementation of new systems is desirable.
