GW Libraries and Academic Innovation (GWLAI) enriches the academic experience of scholars and students and sparks innovation at GW. Systems Administrators at GW work closely with a broad range of partners on and off campus to achieve GW’s aspirations to excellence as a comprehensive global research university. GWLAI’s Systems Administrator is responsible for servers that support the research lifecycle; data analysis; software development; stewardship of resources; management, development, description, and digitization of collections; which illuminate GW’s specialized, unique, and archival content. They partner with other libraries across the region to provide GWLAI with a reliable, secure, and flexible server infrastructure. Successful candidates will demonstrate a collaborative spirit; a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to contribute to the core functions of the library while exercising expertise in their particular area of practice.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Deploys, configures and maintains Ubuntu servers to support web applications
Maintains current knowledge of security related trends, industry standards, and implements IT infrastructure best practices.
Automates workflows to support agile deployment of software
Prepares technical documentation, conducting training for users
Monitors the availability and performance of the GWLAI production systems
Manages SSL certificates for GWLAI servers
Serves as a technical representative at the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC). WRLC is a consortium of research Libraries in Washington DC which supports and enhances the library and information services of its constituent members.
Configures single-sign-on for web applications using SAML
Communicates clearly to audiences with different levels of technical expertise
Coordinates and responds to incidents when they occur and provides timely updates to all technology stakeholders
Works with other GWU and WRLC professionals to improve processes, evolve systems, and think strategically to advance our technology infrastructure.
