Hi Francisco,
An open source alternative would use the semantic scholar api (
https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.semanticscholar.org%2Fproduct%2Fapi&data=05%7C01%7Cfrancisco.d.juarez%40VANDERBILT.EDU%7Cf18d90dd9c3b46a0664708da592dab2d%7Cba5a7f39e3be4ab3b45067fa80faecad%7C0%7C0%7C637920349929735669%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=u%2F0C2X3MXnA8ZWNeqFngL%2BeCgLptcOCbU%2FdUzSe3ihk%3D&reserved=0) and mysql to store the data in tables. Then use jq within your sql query to grab what data you need. I believe that mysql 5.0+ allows you to query the json directly within the sql query. I am currently working on a paper using this exact workflow. I hope this helps a bit.
warm regards,
Darnelle
