Northwestern University Libraries has an opening for a new position of Linked Data Librarian.
The Linked Data Librarian will play a key role leading Northwestern University Libraries toward the implementation of linked data. Joining a collaborative team of metadata experts, this position will contribute to setting linked data priorities and will develop projects and solutions that bridge existing and legacy metadata to libraries’ linked data future. The Linked Data Librarian will support the scholars of the Libraries through metadata creation, enrichment, and maintenance and perform original cataloging and metadata creation for library resources in a variety of formats, languages, and subjects.

Responsibilities:
· Analyzes opportunities and challenges and makes recommendations on the metadata requirements for the effective implementation of linked data and the effective access and long-term management of collections. Explores, designs and carries out solutions for the creation, harvesting, and repurposing of metadata, particularly as it relates to the implementation of linked data .
· Develops and analyzes internal reports in order to implement catalog and metadata remediation and enrichment projects based on changes in metadata standards and preparations for linked data and other emerging technologies.
· In collaboration with others, develops and carries out training for library staff on linked data and emerging metadata trends and standards.
· Maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues concerning linked data, BIBFRAME, and semantic web developments and the implications and opportunities available as they relate to metadata practice and the libraries’ discovery platform. Identifies opportunities for linked data projects and collaborations
· Ensures metadata quality, interoperability, and re-use among and beyond various repositories and discovery systems. Develops crosswalk mappings to and from MARC, MODS, EAD, VRA Core, Dublin Core, and other schemas for general use and for content-specific situations.
· Performs primarily original and some complex copy cataloging using Alma, OCLC, RDA, LCSH, LCC, and other tools as needed. Works with both MARC and non-MARC metadata in all formats, languages, and subjects as needed to support the Northwestern University Libraries’ collections.
· Participates in national cooperative cataloging initiatives, including NACO, BIBCO, SACO, and OCLC Enhance.
· Creates and maintains documentation for areas of responsibility.
· Monitors linked data activities of consortial, community, and vendor partners; represents Northwestern University Libraries in consortial projects as appropriate. Communicates and collaborates with library stakeholders on linked data projects and developments.
· Prioritizes inclusivity and equity within metadata practice and when considering implementing new metadata principles and technologies.
· Participates in appropriate professional development, continuing education, national-level professional service, or research activities.
· Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in librarianship, or related field
· Two years of experience creating bibliographic and authority metadata
· Knowledge of library metadata and linked data concepts and developments, including BIBFRAME and RDF
· Experience working with data formats such as CSV, JSON, and XML and data transformation techniques and tools such as XSLT, Open Refine, and SPARQL
· Experience with metadata format and content standards, including RDA and MARC21
· Experience with non-MARC metadata schemas
· Interest in professional engagement and contribution, such as research, publication, and involvement in pertinent professional and scholarly organizations

· Demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of work, completes what is needed without being asked, and follows through on projects

Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with Alma and OCLC
· NACO certification completed, or in process
· Project management experience
· Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language and the ability to work with data in non-English languages
