Job Overview
The Data Services Librarian plays a key role in the development and implementation of a robust data services program to support the needs of faculty, researchers, and students at Georgetown University. They provide consultation, instruction, and programming related to research data management and collaborate with faculty and research librarians to integrate data literacy into curriculum and library instruction; and provide data services that support faculty and students engaged in data-intensive research projects. In collaboration with Library and campus partners and stakeholders, the Data Services Librarian contributes to discussions involving data storage and infrastructure.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Head of the Digital Scholarship Services Unit, the Data Services Librarian collaborates with other Digital Scholarship Services Unit staff to provide complementary services and instructional support to the University community. They work closely with other staff members within the Digital Scholarship and Technology Services department and other units within the Library. The Data Services Librarian collaborates with staff in other campus units, including University Information Services, Research Technologies, the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship, the Office of Research Services, and the Office of Assessment and Decision Support.
The Data Services Librarian represents the Digital Scholarship and Technology Services department on task forces, committees, and working groups.
Qualifications
Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced degree in a relevant field
At least 2 years of data services experience, including involvement with quantitative and/or geospatial data software products and processes
Demonstrated knowledge of data management, curation, and preservation principles and best practices
Experience supporting researchers with data services, including review of data management plans, data discovery, data analysis and visualization, and data storage.
Knowledge of public and proprietary resources for national and international numeric data
Demonstrated knowledge of software used for statistical, geospatial, and qualitative analysis and data visualization - e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, ArcGIS, Tableau, NVivo
Experience providing in-person or online instruction
Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
Excellent technical and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented project development environment
Preferred Qualifications
Academic or professional experience in the social sciences, sciences, and/or other fields utilizing quantitative methodologies
Experience writing data management plans in support of faculty grant projects and sponsored research
