On Tuesday September 13, 2022, please join the AI4LAM
<https://sites.google.com/view/ai4lam> Metadata Working Group as we welcome
Baylor’s Amy James and Joshua Been, who will present their information

of the 2022 ALA Library Instruction Round Table’s Innovation in Instruction
Award, the syllabi miner tool

sorts a set of university course syllabi into potential library instruction
support categories, itemized in the current version as Library Basics,
Research Basics, or Research in the Disciplines. Although course syllabi
are not routinely cataloged as library resources, and although the tool’s
creators are quick to point out that their work is technically not what
they consider an “AI project,” still the potential for innovating by mining
text resources not commonly searched using text mining techniques to label
and sort mission critical academic documents promises to be of interest to
metadata and library technology enthusiasts, and it can connect us with the
more public-facing, instructional side of library work. We hope you can
join us.
