Reference and STIP Librarian

Location: Oak Ridge, TN, US, 37830

Overview:
The Research Library and Information Services Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking an enthusiastic early-career Librarian to provide services to ORNL staff that support the entire publication lifecycle. The successful candidate will split their time to support both the Research Library and the Scientific and Technical Information (STI) Program. They will provide high-quality reference support with an emphasis on providing a satisfying and engaging user experience. Additionally, they will assist ORNL authors with making their scientific and technical information appropriately available.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  *   Provide library reference services to ORNL staff, subcontractors, students, and others as appropriate by staffing a service desk (in-person) and providing "virtual reference" via chat, email, and phone.
  *   Complete scientific profiles for S&T staff and new hire candidates by collecting bibliographic data from CVs and databases such as SciVal, Scopus, Web of Science, etc.
  *   Support ORNL's compliance with the DOE Public Access Plan by obtaining accepted manuscripts for ORNL journal articles which are past the embargo period for Public Access.
  *   Work with the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) to identify and resolve ORNL publications that OSTI has hidden from their public database (osti.gov) due to metadata errors or issues with the accepted manuscript.
  *   Assist with the Final Check for completed publications in ORNL's internal review-and-release system (RESolution), ensuring that the publication metadata and published documents are correct and appropriate for DOE transmission.
  *   Work closely with other Librarians and staff to advance the impact of the Library by modernizing systems and processes.
  *   Set priorities appropriately to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines.
  *   Adhere to DOE directives/standards and training requirements.
  *   Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility by fostering a respectful workplace - in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.

Basic Qualifications:

  *   Master of Library and/or Information Science degree (completed no later than Spring 2024).
  *   Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  *   Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  *   Strong customer service focus including interpersonal skills.
  *   Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance (L or Q).

Preferred Qualifications:

  *   Familiarity with publication metrics such as H-index and Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI).
  *   Familiarity with federal public access mandates (e.g., Scientific and Technical Information, FAIR data availability).
  *   Previous experience with advanced database search queries.

Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
