We are pleased to announce that the International Summer School on 
Digital Art History (DAHSS), a joint initiative of the University of 
Málaga, the Fundación General de la Universidad de Málaga, the HDH, and 
the Telefónica-UMA Chair, will celebrate the eight editions from 
September 2nd to 7th (2024) in the wonderful city of Málaga.
The DAHSS schedule is divided into three different types of sessions: 
plenary sessions, coffee talks and track sessions. We will also give the 
DAHSS participants the opportunity to explore the cultural and 
historical life of the city, offering a package with museum and 
historical site tickets.

2024 Theme: Sustainability and politics of AI
As AI technologies evolve at an unprecedented pace, it's crucial to 
understand their long-term impact on sustainability and political 
matters to ensure they benefit society as a whole. Since AI has the 
power to reshape industries, economies, culture, and social structures, 
integrating sustainability and ethical governance into the core of AI 
development and implementation is essential. The DAHSS24 framework will 
explore key issues, including the cultural and environmental impact of 
AI technologies, ethical considerations in AI development, and the 
governance frameworks required to regulate these advancements. 
Consequently, the DAHSS24 will focus on the pivotal question: How can AI 
be governed globally to enhance transparency, sustainability, fairness, 
and accountability? Additionally, it will examine how the fields of 
Digital Art History and Digital Humanities at large can contribute to 
these objectives. The sessions aim to stimulate insightful discussions 
and provide critical insights while participants learn technical skills 
and discuss computational methodologies.  By the end of this workshop, 
participants will gain a deeper understanding of the complex interplay 
between technology, sustainability and politics, and be equipped with 
the knowledge to advocate for responsible AI development.

The course is organized around tracks. Each participant can only join 
one of the tracks. During your application, you should select the tracks 
in your preferred order.
Track A: Visual AI for Visual Culture
Track B: Art on the Web: Creating Cultural Heritage Knowledge Networks
Track C: Cartographies of Humanities
Track D: The Archive Makes the Image

Plenary Sessions
No matter what track you pick, you will also see what students do in 
other tracks in our daily plenary session. In the plenary sessions, 
notable alumni of the DAHSS program will also share feedback and 
observations about how DAHSS helped them in their work.

Intended audience: postgraduate students, academic researchers, 
independent scholars and professionals related to the following 
disciplines: Art History and Visual Studies, Fine Arts, Library, 
Archives, Computer Sciences, Media and New Media Studies, Museum 
Studies, Information Sciences, and Humanities.
