My esteemed listmates,
After reading a plethora of Web pages and articles and posts where I
gleaned from some Web sites which stated you do not need a data plan
or any data left on your cell phone service to download (to read) an
MMS message I live chatted with Tracfone today to confirm that with
them.
I was told by Tracfone that you do need a data plan to read an MMS message.
Lots of disinformation out there which makes it confusing for
consumers and patrons.
Tracfone shared that my data was probably used up because (not knowing
any differently) I had Data Roaming on.
Tracfoem never mentioned when I got my 1st smartphone with them 6
years ago and it neve became an issue until out of the blue this past
month people started sending me MMS from work. I had to Google it to
even know what that was. I texted and I phoned - I never MMS'd
Most of my coworkers have no idea what this is because their spouse
bought them a pricey iPhone with unlimited data - why would they care
what MMS stands for?
But, a frugal minded person trying to not spend $30 - $95 a month for
cell service does care when suddenly the MMS won't download. I did
have 1 cor works with an iPhone unable to open the MMS - apparently
there's a separate setting on iPhones?
Anyway, for anyone who reads this list and may be frugal I was told by
Tracfone to avoid data usage other than downloading an MMS message to
switch it on to rea an MMS and then ensure after each MMS download to
access Settings> Connections > Mobile Networks and ensure Data Roaming
is turned off so you don't use any data other than for MMS messages.
In my case, I don't surf the net on my phone, watch YT videos on the
cell, nor watch TV nor films.
Please let me know if and where ths Tracfone advice is wrong?
Hope this post helps even one other person.
Thank you.
Charles.
