Erich,
Perhaps you could reach out to Atlas Systems. Maybe they can see something in the logs that stands out. If you haven’t already, setting the logs to debug mode might also give you more insight as to what happened just before the system manager stopped working.
As for restarting regularly, we are hosted by OCLC and I’m fairly certain the system manager is set to restart twice a day. It does need some cache clearing. It’s also commonly needed to restart the system manager if connected services like IDS Logic have issues and ILLiad doesn’t pick up on when it’s fixed.
Another idea – have you or Angela tried running the system manager on a slightly longer interval such as 4 minutes instead of 1 or 2? Does that make a difference?
On a final note: Albany is at the forefront of a lot of ILLiad automation and does have more addons, both client and server, than most places. We have about a dozen addons between the server and client but Albany also has a much higher volume of requests running through the system. Maybe the high volume also contributes to more system restarts compared to other lower volume instances?

Dale,
I added the scheduled restarts because we (there were several sysadmins before) were being asked to restart the System Manager almost every morning. At first it was once a day at 6am (before anyone started working), but then, there were many days where it was needed again by the afternoon/evening. IIRC, I changed it to every 8 hours, but there were still instances where I needed to manually restart in in between. At this point, it is set to every 2 hours, and I am *still* asked once in a while to restart it.
Maybe the ILLiad Manager too-quickly jumps to "needing" a restart of the System Manager as a troubleshooting solution? I don't know. It does often seem to resolve the issues though.
Thanks,
Erich
