*Dark and Stormy ISSN Secrets*
December 04, 2024, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET
*Register:* https://nasig.org/event-5910944
*DESCRIPTION*
ISSN may seem a simple subject but behind those 8 characters there is a lot
going on. Learn about some of the shadowy situations that ISSN staff
handle, and the detective work they sometimes have to do, as well as some
ISSN facts-- just the facts, ma’am-- that might surprise you. The
presentation will also pull back the curtain on some bright and shiny
things to come in the ISSN world and will leave room for questions.
*SPEAKER BIO*
*Regina Romano Reynolds* is director of the U.S. ISSN Center and head of
the ISSN Section at the Library of Congress. She works at the intersection
of the library, information, and publishing communities. As a member of the
ISSN Review Group, she also represents that group on the U.S. MARC Advisory
Committee. She served on the U.S. National Libraries RDA Test Coordinating
Committee that recommended replacing the MARC format for catalog records
with a format that could take full advantage of RDA and linked data,
currently being developed as BIBFRAME. She is active in the national and
international standards environment and has participated in several
revisions of ISO 3297 (the ISSN standard); and worked on the revision of
ISO 8, (periodicals identification and description). She is a member of
NISO’s PIE-J and Transfer standing committees. A past winner of the
Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award, she is a frequent speaker and writer
on ISSN, standards for serials, and the future of bibliographic control.
She has undergraduate degrees in English and French, and an AMLS degree
from the University of Michigan.
