Workshop: Large Language Models for Library Information Organization (LLM4Cat)
At: iConference 2025
Date: March 18, 2025
Location: Bloomington, Indiana, USA
===================================================================
**Overview**
Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT, LlaMa, and their successors are transforming natural language processing and information retrieval, which presents significant opportunities for innovation in library and information science. This workshop invites scholars, practitioners, and developers to explore the transformative potential of LLMs in library information organization, including cataloging, metadata generation, classification, and information retrieval.
Join us at iConference 2025 to share ideas, showcase innovative applications, and discuss challenges using LLMs to address cataloging and metadata needs within libraries and information organizations.
**Topics of Interest**
We welcome submissions on a range of topics, including, but not limited to:
- Applications of LLMs in library cataloging and metadata creation - classifying knowledge objects, enhancing subject indexing and keyword generation, etc.
- User-centered studies on the effectiveness of LLMs in information organization.
- Needs assessments showing what problems LLMs might realistically help solve in library cataloging.
- Challenges in adapting LLMs to cataloging needs.
- Ethical considerations and biases in using LLMs for library information organization.
- Open-source and collaborative LLM projects for libraries.
