Hi Everyone,
I hope you’ve all had a great week so far. As a co-facilitator of the on-going AI Discussion Series, we wanted to let you know that we are cancelling the April discussion meeting. We will resume meeting in May (May 5th @ 11am Eastern).
And update from the AI Discussion Facilitators:
At the last meeting we proposed forming 3 sub-groups that will be focused on the 3 areas of interest identified by the group. The areas of interest are follows:
1. Drafting a Whitepaper/Executive Summary – This group will be focused on collaborative drafting a paper to help highlight the issues we have all shared, and educate GLAM institutional leaders on the downstream impacts. This group is being spearheaded by Andy Goldstein from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
2. Metrics Gathering - This group will be tasked with defining, gathering, and disseminating metrics around the impacts of excessive bot activity, specifically around things like service impacts, downtime, staff resources to handle attacks etc. Currently this group will be led by Arran Griffith from Fedora.
3. Publication Venues – This group will be focused on exploring and recommending venues for distributing the results of our investigations and discussions. Defining and targeting the “right audiences” to share the outputs of this discussion series will help increase our shared network of resources and educate others on progress we make. Currently this group has no assigned leader.
As a next step, we are seeking individuals who are interested in continuing to work alongside the current stakeholders. We have created the following: Communications List - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17cFHHnQIBvXJn8BgzAN5-UhoXvFnX7nbAZT9vuAqhDE/edit?usp=sharing
• This list is for anyone interested in participating in the discussion as it progresses into action. Going forward, the Communications List will be used for low-traffic conversation specifically related to the work of this group. We are encouraging everyone with interest to join the Communications List and identify which area of interest you would like to participate in. Selecting more than one topic is fine.
Thank you to everyone who has shown up to our meetings. I hope you have found value in the discussion. We are excited to move in to the next phase by turning talk to action. We appreciate the diverse perspectives and experiences this group has shared and we hope that you will continue to join us in the work ahead. A reminder of the wiki space we have created, which holds a generalized summary of our discussion topics and resources - https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/cmtygp/Aggressive+AI+Harvesting+of+Digital+Resources.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Please feel free to share this email with any groups/individuals/communities you feel would have interest. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Arran, on behalf of the AI Discussion Series Facilitators
