By popular demand, MIRL 2026 will be a two-day symposium! Save the dates for the Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://scholarlycommons.henryford.com/mirl__;!!KVWo1iE!RIyQZbFIXGoZxB72aj5JzkMI_ajLzJgXdvzJi0M3QnZhmkipYNn0tVTKyxRQBT0SS3CPfprItzB2_IM$>, a free virtual event with a focus on Institutional Repository (IR) management, curation, and promotion in a health sciences environment.
* The sixth annual symposium will take place virtually on Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20, 2026.
* Daily keynote speakers include Sally Gore, (Manager of Research and Scholarly Communication Services, Lamar Soutter Library, UMass Chan Medical School) and Joshua Cromwell (Scholarly Communications Manager, Cook Library, University of Southern Mississippi).
* There is no cost for participating, but registration will be required.
* Registration information and a program agenda for each half-day will be announced later this summer.
The MIRL Symposium is a platform-neutral conference. Our goal is to gather together IR practitioners and those with an interest in IRs at hospitals, academic medical centers, and other health settings for discussions and sharing of case studies and best practices for digital archiving of institutional content.
The MIRL Planning Committee is now accepting proposals for:
* Lightning talks (approximately 10 minutes including Q&A)
* Vendor talks (pre-recorded and available as recordings only)
We welcome proposals on a variety of topics including, but not limited to:
* Policies and practices that ensure confidentiality (e.g., PHI /personal health identifiers in IRs), accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion
* Unusual medical/health sciences institutional repository (IR) content, collections, use cases, collaborations, or challenges
* Migrating repository platforms: stories, processes, and lessons learned
* IRs in a time of budget cuts: ROI and justifying the cost
* Finding your champions, marketing your IR
* Reporting out: telling your IR story with statistics and metrics
* IR harvesting and support tools, workflow
* Strategies for management of faculty/researcher publications, conference posters, student collections, digital exhibits, digital archives, preprints, datasets
* Promoting open access (OA) initiatives
* Use of technologies (from APIs to AI)
