Join us for a virtual tour of Symphony of Colors: Paul Signac and Neo-Impressionism. This exhibition brings together approximately 100 works that encompass the development of Neo-Impressionism, its adherents’ new approaches to color, their anarchist convictions, and the movement’s larger influence outside of France. Paul Signac’s works are displayed alongside several fellow Neo-Impressionists, including Georges Seurat, Camille Pissarro, Théo van Rysselberghe, Alfred William Finch, Jan Toorop, and women artists Anna Boch, Lucie Cousturier, and Jeanne Selmersheim-Desgrange, whose importance to the movement has been widely overlooked. 

Curator and head of Impressionism at the Museum Barberini Dr. Nerina Santorius will guide us through the galleries with two leading Signac scholars: Charlotte Cachin, Head of the Archives Signac in Paris and curator of Signac collectionneur at the Musée d’Orsay, and Marina Ferretti Bocquillon, former Director of Research and Scientific Affairs at the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny and Head of the Archives Signac from 1981 to 2012. This is an unmissable opportunity to take a closer look at several significant paintings and situate Neo-Impressionism within its larger historical and political landscape.

Charlotte Cachin, head of the Signac Archives in Paris; currently working on an updated catalogue raisonné of Signac’s oeuvre; curator of the exhibition Signac collectionneur at the Musée d’Orsay (2021) and author of numerous articles on the artist for various publications; editor of Signac’s diaries, Journal 1894–1909 (2021), and author of a book on his private life, Glissez, mortels (2019); contributed catalog essays on Signac to numerous exhibition projects, including En jeu! Les Artistes et le sport, 1870–1930 (2024) and Radical Harmony: Helene Kröller-Müller’s Neo-Impressionists (2025).


Marina Ferretti Bocquillon, former director of research and scientific affairs at the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny; head of the Signac Archives in Paris from 1981 to 2012; curator of numerous exhibitions on Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism, including Signac 1863–1935 (2001), Le Néo-impressionnisme: De Seurat à Paul Klee (2005), Le Jardin de Monet à Giverny: L’Invention d’un paysage (2009), Bonnard en Normandie (2011), Signac: Les Couleurs de l’eau (2013), Caillebotte: Peintre et jardinier (2016), Japonismes / Impressionnismes (2018), and Henri-Edmond Cross: Peindre le bonheur (2018); author and editor of numerous publications, including Signac aquarelliste (2001), L’Impressionnisme (2004), Signac collectionneur (2021), and Signac: Les Harmonies colorées (2021).


Dr. Nerina Santorius, curator and head of Impressionism at the Museum Barberini in Potsdam since 2024; PhD at the Freie Universität Berlin on the concept of ugliness in nineteenth-century French sculpture; from 2009 to 2015, she worked at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main, where she was responsible for exhibitions such as the anniversary show Monet and the Birth of Impressionism (2015); from 2015 to 2024, Santorius was a curator at the Kunsthalle Munich and developed exhibitions such as Good—True—Beautiful: Masterpieces of the Paris Salon from the Musée d’Orsay (2017), You Are Faust: Goethe’s Drama in the Arts (2018), Fantastically Real: Belgian Modern Art from Ensor to Magritte (2021), Silent Rebels: Polish Symbolism Around 1900 (2022), and The Myth of Spain: Ignacio Zuloaga 1870–1945 (2023). At the Museum Barberini she curated the exhibition The Honest Eye: Camille Pissarro’s Impressionism (2025).
