Dear friends, As you may recall, the DLF has developed and endorsed a benchmark for digitally reformatted monographs and serials (see http://www.diglib.org/standards/bmarkfin.htm). The benchmark focuses largely on format specifications. It left for subsequent work specification of the a minimum-level functionality that would be required of a digital master, for example, as would impact upon the metadata that would need to be supplied for it. That subsequent work has now been completed and the results are avialable in a document of draft recommendations pertaining to the minimum required functions of a digital masters. The draft is now being circulated for review and comment and ultimately for endorsement by DLF members and is available at http://www.diglib.org/standards/draftbmfunctions.htm. Should these recommendations be endorsed, they will be incorporated with those available in the benchmark as a single document. Comments on these draft recommendations should be sent to [log in to unmask] by June 30, 2002. Please be sure to specify whether you would endorse these recommendations Cheers Dan Daniel Greenstein Director, Digital Library Federation 1755 Massachusetts Ave, NW #500 Washington DC 20036 (202) 939-4762
