Librarian for Collections and Digital Services
University of Virginia Science and Engineering Libraries


The University of Virginia Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented individual to lead and manage collections and digital services for the Science and Engineering Libraries. 

Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Director of the Science and Engineering Libraries, the Librarian for Collections and Digital Services coordinates and manages the collections and digital services of the Science and Engineering Libraries.  A full posting for this position can be found at: http://www.lib.virginia.edu/HR/faculty.html.

Qualifications Required: Master’s degree in library science or a relevant field and experience in an academic library setting.  Demonstrated successful experience in managing and developing collections in both analog and digital formats; knowledge of online cataloging, database structures, metadata standards and encoding schema.  Candidates should demonstrate excellent organization and communication skills, supervisory skills, and a commitment to continuous professional training and development. The candidates should be able to successfully initiate, track, and manage multiple projects and tasks. Preferred: An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in science, engineering, mathematics or business, experience using standard desktop computing software packages, particularly spreadsheets required and knowledge of HTML, XML, Javascript, Perl, MySQL, and/or related web programming languages.   

Salary and Benefits:  Competitive depending on qualifications. This position has general faculty status with excellent benefits, including 22 days of vacation and TIAA/CREF and other retirement plans.
