Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about the position or the project. -- Kris CENTER FOR LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN STUDIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATE RSS Indiana University seeks candidates for the position of Research Associate (Central American and Mexico Video Archive, hereafter Project CAMVA), 12 month appointment for the period 10-1-05 to 9-30-06, renewable pending funding and satisfactory performance. The research associate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Project CAMVA, which is funded by the Technological and Cooperation for Foreign Information Access (TICFIA), USA Department of Education, and will work closely with staff and project co- directors at each of the partner institutions to facilitate the timely completion of project activities. Based at Indiana University, Project CAMVA is a consortium of three leading research institutes in Central America and Mexico: The Institute of Nicaraguan and Central American History (IHNCA, Nicaragua), The Museum of Worlds and Images (MUPI, El Salvador), and The Center for Advanced Research and Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS, Mexico). This position is Tenure-Ineligible, Limited Term. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: facilitating face-to-face and online communication between project partners, developing and maintaining project documentation, developing specifications for digitization of film and video, developing specifications for metadata and cataloging, ordering equipment for each of the partner institutions, overseeing the ingestion of digital content and metadata into the storage and delivery system, working with project staff and project co-directors to develop requirements for systems to support metadata creation and user access to video, working with project staff to develop the project web site and perform user testing, and ensuring project budgets are met. Requirements: 1. Strong background in Information Technology including the following areas of specialization: digitization procedures, digital archives, digital libraries, database design and programming, web design and programming, and systems analysis and design methodologies; 2. Proficiency in Project Management: supervisory experience, knowledge of project management tools, software and methodologies, effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to work cooperatively with individuals and groups; 3. Academic and Language Background: candidate must be bilingual in Spanish and English, and background in Latin American Studies. Salary and Rank: Research Associate.
