Special
Event at The University of Texas at Austin:
Visit
the Digitization Center at the Perry-Castaņeda Library at The University of
Texas at Austin for a special docWORKS demonstration
Wednesday April 12th, 2006 from 2pm to 4pm
The University of Texas at Austin Libraries, in cooperation with CCS (Germany),
invite you to visit the Digitization Center at the Perry-Castaņeda Library and
get a closer look into its text conversion workflow.
The library is a short, free bus ride from the conference hotel and the event
will take place after the forum ends on Wednesday afternoon.
At the center, UT is digitizing 60,000 pages of the Southwestern Historical
Quarterly (1897- 2005). This in-house digitization project includes the
conversion of image files into XML and HTML including full text OCR correction
and sophisticated footnote linking.
The first phase of the project is now completed, and the first 50 volumes (1897
– 1947) are
available on the web. The outcome provides excellent access and research
opportunities for people throughout the world. Please see an example at: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/publications/journals/shq/online/v031/n1/article_6.html
CCS
representatives, with the help of Digitization Center staff, will demonstrate
the conversion workflow using the CCS conversion software docWORKS and talk
about the challenges of high-level mark up structure, footnote linking and OCR
correction. As the developers of docWORKS technology, the CCS representatives
will be available for questions. CCS is also managing the registration for this
event.
