Library Associates seeks an Acquisitions/Cataloging Library Technician
in Downtown Los Angeles. The technician will work with the Subscriptions
and Book Services group in the Research Library, acquiring, cataloging
and processing information material. This person also interacts with
associates in any of the U.S. offices, Finance and Accounting, other
groups within the Research Library, and numerous vendors and suppliers.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

*       Acquisitions for all the U.S offices: 

        *       Pre-order searching, vendor selection, order placement,
invoice processing, reviewing incoming shipments for accuracy and
completeness, resolving problems with delivery, access and payments, 
        *       Serving as the library's liaison with vendor
representatives 
        *       Managing standing orders 
        *       Obtaining copyright permissions. 

 

*       Cataloging: 

        *       Copy cataloging with the assignment of LC classification
and subject headings, 
        *       Some original cataloging, and maintaining the catalog
database in the library system software. 
        *       Cataloging non-print material such as electronic
formats, database and website access, and online collections of books.

*       Collection responsibilities include preparing materials for
library's physical collections (applying labels and book jackets),
shelving collection material, and assisting with collection development.


 

Qualifications

 

*       Recent experience in library acquisitions or cataloging; 
*       Knowledge of publishing practices and acquisitions procedures; 
*       Elementary cataloging knowledge including bibliographic
utilities such as OCLC;

*       Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in response to
varying time pressures; 
*       Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; 
*       Good verbal and written communication skills; 
*       Consistency and dependability in performing work assignments; 
*       Ability to work independently and as part of a team; 
*       Solid computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Internet
searching); 
*       Alphabetic and numeric filing skills; 
*       Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.; 
*       Willingness and capability to accept new tasks and
responsibilities as assigned as this position evolves; 
*       College degree required; 
*       Coursework in library science highly desirable;
