Scanning Forum 2006 Balancing Quality, Automation, and Service Call for Proposals Submission must be received no later than July 24, 2006 *You Are Invited* In the fall of 2006, the first annual Scanning Forum will present a one and a half day conference on scanning and imaging for Libraries and other institutions. Designed for staff that work with digitizing, scanning, and imaging, this forum aims to share best practices, streamline process, problem solve, and share practical information among colleagues and vendors. Date: November 6 & 7, 2006; Location: Charlottesville, Virginia. *Who Will Attend* Scanning Forum participants and presenters come from various organizations; academia, business, government, and non-profit organizations, however, this years programs focus on four audiences; Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery, Digital Library Production, Alternative Text Creation and Rare Materials Scanning. *Why Should You Attend* This conference is limited to 100 attendees, ranging from novices to experienced professionals in the field of scanning and imaging. The Scanning Forum provides a unique opportunity for engaged discussions with colleagues and vendors. * Discover more about scanning techniques and technologies * Solve practical challenges with scanning or imaging * Find out how operations balance quality, automation, and service in their process * Talk with vendors about what new products and services they offer * Share success stories and best practices * Tour several scanning operations at the University of Virginia Library *Invitation to Present* The Scanning Forum invites you to submit a brief proposal to present at our conference on Balancing Quality, Automation, and Service. We are looking for success stories that share practical information about how and what was involved. The programs are 75 minute sessions, although program proposals may be considered for panel presentations, and presentations should leave 10 minutes for discussion and questions. As this is the first year for the Scanning Forum, there is no speaker stipend or travel reimbursements offered.
